Job Summary
Dr. Rezgui is hiring a graduate student in computer science to work on a funded project towards his/her MS in Computer Science. The team working on this project will be Dr. Rezgui (ISU), Dr. Ayyash (CSU), and two graduate students, one from ISU and one from Chicago State University (CSU). ISU is the lead institution on this project. The selected student will (preferably) start on May 15. The project ends on May 31, 2024. Funding is available for one academic year with tuition waiver.
The student will apply machine learning and optimization techniques on data acquired via a mobile app (to be developed by CSU). The student will have to report weekly on progress made towards the completion of his/her MS. The student will also participate in monthly Zoom meetings with the other three team members. The project requires the publication of at least one journal article and/or one conference paper. The student is expected to participate in that process under the guidance of the advisor.
Graduate research assistants are assigned duties by faculty members to assist with their research, and the majority of the assigned duties are tied to this research. The nature of the assistance varies and can involve a variety of activities such as:
1. Library work.
2. Proposal writing.
3. Data gathering.
4. Data analysis.
Salary Rate/Pay Rate
$700/mo. for .25 FTE; $1400/mo. for .50 FTE
Required Qualifications
1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University seeking a MS in computer science.
3. Excellent programming skills.
4. Excellent analytical skills.
5. Excellent writing skills.
6. A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
7. A grade of A in these two courses (if already taken here at ISU):
a. IT 448 – Introduction to Machine Learning.
b. IT 444 – Data Analytics & Mining.
Preferred Qualifications
Successful prior experience in developing mobile apps (for iOS or Android).
