As an Industrial Designer II, you will work closely with a team of researchers, engineers and user experience experts to deliver innovative, human-centered solutions for the Space Industry. You will be part of a team that is responsible for driving the vision of what the future of human spaceflight will become. You will be expected to lead user-centered design activities and have a mastery of design principles and methodology. You will work with interdisciplinary teams to identify relevant insights and translate them into actionable design opportunities. The designer advocates for the end user and communicates empathetic design needs to the rest of the team. A successful designer will create value far beyond their core function.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop compelling user-centered product design concepts that incorporate ergonomics, functionality, and come to an elegant resolution by utilizing sketches, CAD models, renders and prototypes
  • Create presentations using Adobe CCS, Keyshot and Power Point for key stakeholders
  • Facilitate communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking across a multidisciplinary team by creating storyboards to illustrate a user-journey, brainstorm sketching, concept drawings and high quality contextual product renderings
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss activity and progress
  • Support engineering teams by designing components and interfaces that optimize a crew experience

Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Designer, Mechanical Engineering Design or related field and typically three (3) or more years of relevant experience; higher experience may be considered in lieu of experience
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for required education
  • Portfolio of work with an emphasis on your design process and ability to communicate complex problems and arrive at elegant, user centered solutions. (Must submit portfolio with resume when applying)
  • Experience using CAD software, such as Siemens NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo, CATIA, Rhino and/or Blender.
  • Excellent 3D visualization and sketching ability
  • Experience with the Adobe CCS
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office software
  • Be ready to learn! There is a significant amount of knowledge around human spaceflight and the right candidate will be hungry to understand as much of the technical information around the subject matter as possible
Preferred:
  • Proficient using Siemens NX software and creating Class-A surfaces
  • Prior experience working on space or space related projects.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware and or, fabrication, manufacturing, and production processes
  • Experience with VR
  • Experience creating renders and animations in Keyshot or other software
  • Experience with 3D printing and quick turn mock ups
  • An advanced sensitivity to Form and CMF
  • Experience in Transportation Design and Class-A surfacing
  • Experience working with Human Factors testing and constraints
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required
