Title: HR Generalist/Specialist

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

About McIntosh: McIntosh Box & Pallet is a wood packaging company that has been in business for over 58 years with 450+ employees across twelve locations. We have seven Plants in New York State, two in West Virginia, one in Virginia, one in Maryland, and one in North Carolina. We are searching for a qualified individual to help us in our Southern locations!

Job Summary: Human Resources Generalist, is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department. Their duties include comparing HR laws to current policies and procedures, drafting templates for HR documents and working with other members of the department to oversee the hiring and onboarding process for company employees.

Location: Hybrid/Remote/

Responsibilities:

Benefits Administration:

· Process Unemployment Claims, gather and provide relevant information to processor.

· Review Unemployment Claims with the HR Director and share findings and updates with the management teams on an ongoing basis.

· Share a quarterly recap of Unemployment Claims stats to share with the admin team.

· Assist Payroll & Benefits Specialist with open enrollment activities and new hire orientations.

Employee Relations:

· Maintain a thorough and in depth understanding of each plant’s safety, disciplinary, and attendance policies to best assist with employee issues that arise.

· Track and maintain timely completion of Performance Improvement and Development plans.

· Track and maintain timely completion of Progressive Disciplines.

· Assist with conducting confidential employee investigations regarding formal complaints, prepare summary and findings reports and letters, and present to management.

· Assist managers with complex situations with the help of the HR Director.

· Manage the reasonable suspicion training, administer as needed by partnering with the plants and/or management teams.

Continuous Improvement and HR Support:

· Continuously identify gaps and opportunities to streamline and create improved processes. Recommend and collaborate with other team functions on continuous improvement.

· Serve as a thought partner and subject matter expert to team members. Research and respond to employee inquiries with prompt, accurate and friendly customer service.

· Engage with plants to train and teach employees and Managers on best practices and processes.

· Assist team with implementation.

· Assist team with special projects as needed.

General:

Onboarding:

· Launch onboarding events, assist plants, departments, and employees throughout the onboarding process and ensure completion.

· Mail welcome letters to new hires.

· Enter new employee into Paylocity

· Update Company Contact Sheet if needed

Termination Processing:

· Enter in termination into Paylocity using the Termination Report that is turned in.

· Launch departmental checklists and ensure completion.

· Update Company Contact Sheet if needed.

· Send out a weekly Term Report to the Admin team.

· Email HR team member the Exit Interview Form, if the interview is completed, share this with the HR team and partner on sharing with the plant.

Compliance Updates and Research:

· Research laws and updates, stay abreast of new HR regulations

· Communicate these to the HR team to partner on communication and training

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field (preferred)
  • 3 years of Human Resource Management experience or in a similar role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
