Summary

The House Lead at Sunny Glen Children's Home are a compassionate and experienced team who care for children who are in DFPS custody, are from difficult backgrounds, and experience behavioral and emotional challenges. Our goal is to reach the heart of each child in our care and help them heal from their traumas. As such, they must display mastery of childcare related responsibilities, as well as Sunny Glens rules and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Provides continuity and consistency in the home by working hand in hand with children, Unit Manager and Direct Care Staff
  • Must abide by Sunny Glens mission of giving nurturing, trauma-informed care to children from difficult backgrounds
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to staff, ensuring alignment with minimum standards/policies/Sunny Glens Home procedures and/or Licensing
  • Serves as a medical and educational consenter for the youth in their assigned cottage
  • Collaborates with the Unit Manager and Case Manager to ensure documentation is turned in for all levels of the childs care
  • Ensures proper reporting and communication of child or cottage behaviors and incidents with Social Services Team
  • Communicates with Unit Manager and Activity Coordinator for the various outings, activities, and appointments for the cottage
  • Creates purchase orders for the cottage
  • Work independently and as a team
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries
  • Attend trainings and meetings, as scheduled
  • Possess sensitivity to the residents' cultural and socio-economic characteristics
  • Supervise children in DFPS custody (levels of care from basic to specialized)
  • Uses strong organizational skills
  • Must follow childrens daily schedule
  • Maintain an orderly and clean cottage that is always ready for inspection
  • Prepare nutritious meals and snacks
  • Administer medications, as needed
  • Participate in social, recreational, and psychoeducational activities
  • Assume responsibility for safe transportation
  • Oversee youth's homework, chores, hygiene, and other activities of daily living
  • Be a positive role model for residents and direct care staff
  • Teach residents healthy life skills
  • Set appropriate behavioral limits and privileges
  • Implement and abides by TBRI
  • Documenting progress and incidents in KaleidaCare
  • Participate in licensing investigations
  • Participate in medical, dental, psychological, psychotropic and therapy appointments, as needed

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); must be at least 25 years of age; 2 years of experience in childcare; knowledge of human behavior, development, and trauma.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Strong communication skills, important. Bilingual is preferred (English/Spanish).

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an excellent driving record
  • CPR/First Aid, 15 passenger van, CPI, TBRI, case management software, Paycom, and other DFPS mandated training (trainings offered on the job.)
