The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on all types of trucks, forklifts, and telehandlers.
Duties Summary/Responsibilities:
Report to the Facilities Manager- Perform maintenance activities in line with the company preventative maintenance procedures
- Follow the preventive maintenance activities using the preventative maintenance schedule
- Monitor and maintain all yard equipment and other trucks as assigned
- Perform the periodic inspection of the yard equipment and over the road trucks
- Repair and troubleshoot engines such as Cummins, Perkins, CAT and Deere
- Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all heavy-duty components
- Diagnose and repair vehicle malfunction including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic
- Advise yard foreman and provide recommendation for repairs needed
- Road test vehicles as needed for quality assessment
- Ensure compliance with appropriate company safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in adequate safety and working conditions
- Willing to work a flexible schedule
- All other related tasks and duties
Education/Training and Work Experience:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with diesel engines and heavy duty trucks, forklifts, and yard equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Perform effective diagnostic testing and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills to maintain work area and tool storage
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to perform and sustain the following activities on a daily basis for varying periods of time: stand, walk, drag, pull, push, lift, lower, climb stairs or ladders, balance, bend, twist, squat, kneel and stoop on a constant basis, and work in an elevated location. Use of hands and arms fully extended. Ability to lift and hold weights of up to 50 lbs. in sometimes awkward positions when removing or installing parts. Often lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; use hands, arms and upper body on a frequent basis. Full range of motion of the neck and shoulders. Must be able to manipulate a variety of hand and both electronic and pneumatic power tools sometimes for long periods of times in awkward postures. Ability to perform work in variable climate conditions such as but not limited to, hot, cold, dusty, noisy etc.
