About the Position:
The Occupational Health and Safety Manager is responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive range of employee health and safety programs and services to meet the goals and responsibilities of Haakon Industries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty successfully
  • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, evaluate and update Haakon Industries occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs to eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  • Develop annual health and safety plans based on a full review of health and safety needs; assessment of hazards, analysis of databases, audits, changing legislation and best practices as required by all governing bodies
  • Provide guidance and training to all levels within the organization related to health and safety matters in accordance with legislation
  • Develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
  • Develop, arrange and present safety orientation and training for all new employees, existing employees and visitors to ensure complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviors within Haakon Industries
  • Develop a system for training requirements, maintain records of all health and safety related training, assist Human resources with the rollout of all programs
  • Represent Haakon Industries in all matters of health and safety with all levels of government, health and safety organizations and any other outside agencies and organizations
  • Maintain liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance and participates in activities of related professional organizations.
  • Prepares and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures.
  • Maintain and updates all required safety programs
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively. Respond appropriately with effective communication and training and follow-up to supervisors and employees
  • Manage all injury claims and reporting duties
  • Lead annual health and safety audits to ensure effectiveness
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure we are leading the industry in safety standards
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations and occupational health and safety activities with all departments
  • Support and promote occupational health and wellness initiatives
Position Requirements:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications
Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification

Previous Experiences
2-5 year practical experience with all listed essential duties and responsibilities
Proven ability to maintain confidentially of information and records
Service and team-oriented leader who pays specific attention to required details
Exceptional tact, diplomacy, flexibility and listening skills

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
