JOB TITLE: Head Start Center Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time
FLSA STATUS: Exempt/Supervisory
OFFICE LOCATION: Multiple Locations in Georgia (Cartersville, Gordon, Paulding, Polk, Haralson, Rockmart, Floyd)
General Description
Under the direction of the Head Start Director, the Center Manager directs staff to ensure that all service area activities are performed in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, Georgia Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care And Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations, National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Tallatoona CAP, Inc.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews and hires center level employees in collaboration with Service Area Managers.
Approves time and attendance, travel and leave request for center employees.
Provides orientation to new employees, substitutes and volunteers.
Conducts performance evaluations in collaboration with documentation from content area managers.
Counsels and provides training opportunities for center level staff to improve job performance.
Schedules/assigns children to age appropriate classrooms with the assistance of content area managers.
Supports and ensures developmentally appropriate practices are implemented in the center.
Ensures center is staffed according to agency policies, including arranging for substitutes as needed.
Ensures center volunteer goals are met and reviews in-kind for accuracy prior to submission to Central Office.
Inspects buildings and grounds for cleanliness and any needed repairs.
Reports repairs needed to Center Operations Manager.
Reviews applications for eligibility, selection and enrollment of Head Start eligible children.
Ensures enrollment is maintained at the center and that timely replacement of children occurs.
Responsible for reviewing and coordinating applications for eligibility, selection and enrollment of Head Start eligible children.
Conducts staff meetings, no less than monthly.
Ensures that monthly fire/tornado/severe weather/lock down drills are conducted and proper documentation of drills is submitted to Central Office.
Maintains an inventory of agency property; requests and maintains adequate supplies and equipment for center operations.
Monitors activities of center level staff.
Organizes center parent committee, conducts parent meetings in conjunction with the parent committee president and provides center and program information to parents in a timely manner.
Ensures that parent committee elections are held and that appropriate offices are filled for representation on the Policy Council.
Works to resolve parent complaints/concerns in a timely manner.
Monitors center level files (staff, family and children) to ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines.
Maintains staff files in accordance with all applicable guidelines.
Generates required center level reports for program monitoring/improvement, reviews and takes necessary action to ensure compliance with agency guidelines.
Advocates for program in the community, developing key partnerships/collaborations with the community that support the program.
Conducts CLASS screenings and ensures appropriate implementation of the curriculum.
Participates in agency’s annual Self Assessment.
All other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be effective in both written and verbal communication skills
Must have the ability to plan, organize, and multi-task.
Must have access to a vehicle, a valid drivers’ license and maintain adequate liability insurance
Must be able to attend required meetings and trainings at various locations
Must have the ability to work with individuals inclusive of all ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Must possess leadership skills and program management skills.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule
Must have basic office and computer skills (word processing, email, internet research).
Education and Experience
Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or Educational Leadership/Administration with at least three years experience in childcare center management; or any equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience listed herein.
Individual with both oral and written English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
Work Environment
This job operates in a childcare environment. This role routinely requires interactions with children, parents, noisy and fast paced day to day activities. Requires uses of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
