The San Pedro Region provides basic assistance with food, shelter, utilities, clothing, transportation, case management and linkages to community resources for the homeless and low-income households. The Region is also responsible for two homeless shelters one of which is a family shelter to assist homeless families, pregnant women, the disabled and the elderly that moves families from crises to stability. The second shelter is a Bridge Housing shelter for homeless single men and women. The region is also responsible for three community centers of which two serve as a food pantry.
The Group Work II (Lead) will work with single women and men at a ninety day homeless shelter to provide respectful engagement to adults with histories of chronic homelessness, serious psychiatric disabilities and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares schedules of work assignments for team staff.
- Prepares and implements activity schedules for clients participating in team programs.
- Trains, and assigns shelter team staff in assigned duties, including crisis intervention, case management, intakes, referrals, and other shelter functions.
- Respond to phone callers inquiries and takes messages, respond to general questions appropriately.
- Prescreens callers in need of crisis housing & answers a brief set of pre-screening questions in HMIS to determine the household’s eligibility for entering the housing crisis response system.
- Create and/or update household records in the CoC’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Communicates and serves as team liaison with other Shelter staff to facilitate service delivery, and improvements of program services.
- Promotes continuous quality improvement and service delivery that is aligned with the Agency’s mission.
- Provides crisis intervention counseling and outreach services.
- Displays sensitivity to the client population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Performs duties of Resident Attendant as needed.
Qualifications:
- Two years of college required; Bachelor’s Degree in human or social services preferred
- One to three years of related experience to include working in a Lead position
- Must have experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution
- Experience working with the homeless population
- Must be able to work in a Fast-Paced, High-Intensity environment.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, team members and supervisors.
- Ability to use independent judgment and initiative.
- Must be organized and maintain accurate and orderly records.

COVID-19 considerations:
All staff and clients are required to wear mask and will be COVID tested bi-weekly. Agency will provide, gloves, gowns, and mask daily.
