Green Our Planet Online Portal Manager Job Description

Green Our Planet is a Las Vegas-based local, nonprofit organization that runs the largest school garden program in the U.S. The program's goals are to improve STEM Education, conservation, and nutrition in PreK-12 schools nationally by installing an outdoor garden or hydroponics system at a school and then providing curriculum, programming and teacher training so that science, nutrition and conservation can be taught in a hands-on manner, which is the most powerful form of teaching there is. This is a great opportunity to make an impact on Las Vegas and other communities nation-wide.

Green Our Planet Online Portal Manager

Are you a tech savvy person who loves to build platforms and wants to change the world? Are you interested in leading a movement that will help reduce food deserts, increase equity in education and help mitigate climate change? If so then please, please come join us here at Green Our Planet. We are looking for the ideal changemaker and leader with a tech background who is passionate to work with us to build a tribe of teachers, students and communities across the country through our online Green Our Planet Garden Portal.

Our portal provides teachers with all the resources they need to create successful outdoor garden and indoor hydroponics laboratory learning experiences for their students. We also teach communities how to grow food to reduce food deserts and reduce the impact of climate change. As the Green Our Planet Garden Online Portal Manager, you will be in charge of managing the membership experience - onboarding new members, and designing engaging, informative online experiences for members. We are excited to meet you!

Responsibilities and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Design and drive the day-to-day experience for all members inside our online membership community (Green Our Planet Garden Portal) and mobile apps. These responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Create, manage, and execute on a monthly editorial calendar that includes new programming and engagement opportunities for our members. Each month, new content and programming needs to be created for our members that includes: new articles, prompts, questions, polls, virtual events, member Q&A features, roundup articles, and targeted email campaigns—all designed to bring members back on a daily and weekly basis to engage with the organization and with each other around specific topics or trending issues.
  • Coordinate and schedule monthly virtual events (typically live streamed videos within the Green Our Planet Garden Portal) with guest speakers or experts on a particular topic.
  • Write up a monthly “state of the community” report for the GoP leadership team that details growth stats, engagement analytics from the Green Our Planet Garden Portal, and the specific tasks and learnings that were accomplished, along with a detailed plan for the month ahead such as any new experiments you plan to run or projects that will be completed. Some of the measurable goals to report will include:
  • Goal % of teachers engaging on the portal
  • Engagement increase in minutes
  • Content goals
  • # of stories posted per week
  • # lessons created
  • Work with the Hydroponic, GardenConnect, and Outdoor Garden Program points of contacts from Green Our Planet to design trainings that are in alignment with the topics and courses.
  • Collaborate with the Green Our Planet HR team to develop internal onboarding and training for Green Our Planet employees on the Green Our Planet Garden Portal.

Skills and Experience

  • Impeccable writing, editing, and communication skills. You can write up a new article on any topic, ghostwrite an email response for a CEO, draft up a compelling prompt, interview someone and turn it into a killer Q&A piece that people love to read, or create a new event —all with little notice or direction.
  • Little need for day-to-day oversight, but a penchant for over-communication. We want someone who can proactively take on a new project with minimum direction, but give us daily status updates on progress and keep everyone on the team abreast of what’s going on within our membership base.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in roles where you were tasked with managing multi-faceted projects, writing articles or editorial pieces, managing a production calendar, or shipping new products or experiences to your customer or membership base.
