Grants Specialist

The Foundation for California Community Colleges (Foundation) is on a mission to double its impact by 2028. We are seeking Grants Specialist to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation.
What You’ll Do
This position is an opportunity for a mission-motivated professional to join a growing Resource Development Department within the FoundationCCC’s Advancement Division. The Resource Development Department is responsible for the creation, development, and management of financial opportunities that advance the mission of the Foundation and the California Community Colleges. Resource Development supports the organization’s role as the system’s innovation hub; makes the case for, secures, centralizes, manages, and reports revenue generation for the organization; stewards gifts and grants; and manages the cultivation of our relationships with donors and grantors. In addition, the Resource Development Department administers two programs, the Collaborative Impact Program which supports fiscal sponsorship and management services and the Strategic Support for Colleges and Scholars Program which provides colleges with grants, scholarships, and emergency financial aid.
Core Responsibilities
- Gather information for, write, edit, compile, and submit very high-quality grant proposals, competitive contract bids, concept papers, letters of intent that are carefully consistent with funder priorities, guidelines, deadlines, and other instructions.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of FoundationCCC programs and services, and use this knowledge to effectively manage a portfolio of grants and develop cases of support for existing and new programs
- Coordinate with internal and external program and project partners to identify potential funders and grant opportunities; develop timelines and work for producing grant proposals; plan and articulate outcomes, objectives, deliverables, and budgets; and design, write and gather supplemental materials for grant application submission.
- Research, understand, and track current and future grant opportunities, summarizing them and disseminating or promoting them internally, as appropriate.
- Facilitate and track revisions to scopes of work, budgets, and key dates for grants, and keep key internal and partner stakeholders informed of these.
Attributes for Success
- Knowledge of philanthropic and government grant environment, including grant submission processes and requirements.
- Knowledge of nonprofit management and business processes, including program planning, startup and launch.
- Very strong persuasive and technical writing skills and good proofreading skills.
- Ability to produce very high-quality written products quickly, and in a collaborative environment, including ability to work with colleagues to improve written products through constructive feedback, key questions, and editing.
- Prior experience navigating online grant submission systems.
- Knowledge of grant budgeting and project design.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, ensuring that all communications, deliverables, and projects are accurate, professional, and up to date.
- Passionate about providing students with stronger pathways to education and building a more just and equitable California overall.
- A self-starter and quick learner who is highly motivated and outcome-oriented, always seeking innovative approaches to project execution.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
- A strategic and creative thinker who can problem-solve, working within and across teams to swiftly respond to needs identified across the California Community Colleges.
- Practices ownership, takes accountability, and able to manage own work, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality products on time with limited supervision.
- Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the California Community College system and the Foundation’s mission.
