Murdoch Developmental Center is accepting applications for permanent full time Food Service Assistant positions in the main kitchen. The working hours are either 8:00am - 5:00pm or 5:00am - 1:30pm with a rotating 7 day schedule which includes two leave days per week and rotating holidays. Flexibility is required to meet training requirements and facility needs. This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay overnight during adverse weather events.

Responsibilities:
  • assist higher level personnel in preparation and or service of food as well as cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas.
  • accurate portioning and serving of food as well as maintaining high sanitation standards in their assigned work areas.
  • assistants to higher level food service personnel in areas of cooking, preparing cold food items, driving the food truck, etc.
  • work is reviewed by a higher level employee for adherence to sanitation standards and completion of assignments.
Salary Grade: NC01
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $44,509
Position: multiple

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form with your work history/duties. Any information listed under the text resume section or on an attachment will not be considered for qualifying credit. Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:


  • experience preparing or serving food in a commercial or health care facility (Examples: fast food, restaurant chain, hospital, nursing home, etc.)
  • knowledge of Food Safety and Sanitation guidelines
  • a valid NC driver's license
Physical Requirements:
Physical strength to lift at least 50 pounds, engage in extensive walking and or standing in one place for prolonged lengths of time to complete work.

Management Preference:
One year of experience in a commercial kitchen or medical facility in either a housekeeping or food service position.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Education and/or experience in food service that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
