Food and Beverage Assistant Job at People's Resource Center
PRC is hiring a part-time Food Pantry Assistant in our Wheaton location. The Food Pantry Assistant will assist with the daily operations of our food pantry, including unloading, sorting and stocking food, as well as working closely with volunteers. This position will also assist with coverage in PRC’s pantry location in Westmont as needed. This is a 13 hours/week position and is eligible for some benefits. The schedule for the position will be as follows:
- Wednesday – 6:30 am - 12:30 pm
- Friday – 7:00 am - 12:30 pm
- Additional hours for meetings and coverage as needed

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist Food Pantry Supervisor in the daily operations of the food pantry according to program procedures
- Unload, sort, and stock food received from the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB), other vendors and community organizations
- Drive People’s Resource Center (PRC) vehicle, as needed, to pick up food from area retailers or community organizations
- Supervise volunteers during assigned shifts
- Accept donations from the community and maintain appropriate in-kind receipts
- Assist clients while shopping for food
- Assist with maintaining a clean food pantry including walk-in cooler and freezer
- Practice proper food safety and inventory control
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining food pantry equipment for proper and safe operation
- Foster positive relationships with donors (in-kind, local area retailers, etc.)
- Foster positive relationships with Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) representatives and attend NIFB required training sessions
- Provide back up to other pantry operations and locations as needed
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of work experience required
- Experience operating warehouse equipment, pallet jack and/or driving company van preferred
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Commitment to PRC’s mission, values, and community focus
- Enjoys working in a nonprofit social service organization
- Able to work effectively with people from other countries and speaking other languages
- Team player who is able to interact and communicate clearly
- Able to work independently with some guidance and direction
- Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, email, and internet, as well as ability to use iPad
