Job Overview:
SoCalGas is looking for mechanically inclined and tool-oriented individuals who have an aptitude for diagnostic and repair work, while delivering first-rate customer service. With pay starting at $36.57/hr. up to $40.68/hr. over a two-year progression, we are offering an entry level opportunity providing you with training to become a safe and efficient Meter Inspection and Repair Technician; skills that will prepare you for a career with SoCalGas. Current openings are at the Chino hub location. This is a DOT position.
Position Objective:
Successful candidates will be responsible for following established safety procedures and Company guidelines to diagnose and resolve customer requests for service with emphasis on safety, customer communication, and satisfaction.
Job Duties include and Responsibilities:
Picking up assigned work at office and safely operating a Company vehicle to various addresses throughout the day. Performs regulator and planned meter changes utilizing a meter change device and basic hand tools, Identifies and remediates abnormal operating conditions. Reads meters, opens and closes gas service valves, takes and records pressures, and completes necessary order forms.
Performs equivalent or lower grade functions as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful candidates must possess a valid California driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Qualified candidates must be able to use various basic hand and power tools, including gas testing equipment and a hand-held computer or mobile device to document service activities.
- Basic computer skills, strong mechanical skills, ability to follow instructions and customer contact skills. Occasionally Meter Inspection and Repair Technicians are required to work off-hour shifts, extended-day overtime, and weekends. Employees are required to meet established work standards and be able to satisfactorily work alone and in a team environment.
- Applicants must possess a minimum of one (1) year of mechanical/construction and tool experience, OR a minimum of one (1) year of trade (Plumbing, Electrical, Heating, Automotive)/Technical College coursework in Maintenance or Utility programs.
- Selected candidates must pass a pre-qualification examination, physical abilities test, pass a structured panel interview and formalized training, pre-employment drug screen. Incumbents will participate in the D.O.T random drug testing program. Employees are represented by a bargaining unit.
- Must be able to climb and carry a ladder without assistance.
- Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds without assistance.
- Must be able to crawl underneath homes or in attics.
