Essential Duties
- Teaches Spanish to 5-8th Grades
- Develops students' knowledge, skills and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Spanish
- Develops students understanding and appreciation of the native culture of the countries where the language is the primary means of communication
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records
- Performs other related tasks in cooperation with the Principal and Staff
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in the Spanish language, literature, history and/or culture preferred
- Hold a New Jersey Teacher of Spanish Certificate (Standard, CE or CEAS Certification) preferred
- Demonstrated experience at both introductory and intermediate levels preferred
- Complete command of the language
- Strong background, beyond the language, in Spanish cultural traditions, history and literature preferred
- Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, and to communicate and lead through strong interpersonal skills
