Faculty Position In Hospitality Management Job at Maryville College
ANNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY VACANCY
Assistant or Associate Professor of Hospitality Management
Maryville College, a selective four-year liberal arts college committed to superior teaching, invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in Hospitality Management for the 2023-2024 academic year, with the possibility of an earlier start depending on candidate and institutional circumstances. A Ph.D. in Hospitality Management or closely related field is required, and college teaching experience is preferred. The College recently created a new major, Hospitality and Regional Identity, which will train students in what it means to provide hospitality rooted in a specific regional context. The program is situated in the rapidly growing tourism industry centered on Blount County, Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and their environs, and will make extensive practical use of these areas, though its graduates will have skills and knowledge applicable much more widely. The new faculty member in Hospitality will play a central role in building an interdisciplinary liberal arts Hospitality program, working with colleagues in the Business, Appalachian Studies and other programs.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in the Hospitality and Regional Identity major (e.g., Introduction to Hospitality and the Customer Experience, Hospitality Marketing, Management and Operations, Food and Beverages, and Principles of Management), courses in our core curriculum, as well as ongoing supervision of undergraduate senior theses and internships. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting and a readiness for college service, including academic advising. This position includes coordination of the Hospitality and Regional Identity major. Building partnerships with members of the local hospitality and tourism industry and non-profit communities is expected. As our major is located within a Business Program distinctive for situating its courses within an interdisciplinary and holistic view of education, an ability to integrate the ideals of a liberal arts education with business and hospitality disciplines is vital.
