General Summary:

Is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient facilities management of licensed and skilled employees and contractors. This includes all physical plant utilities and equipment, medical gas system, electrical system, Building Automation systems, general maintenance, preventive maintenance, and building/ grounds maintenance. Responsible for policies and procedures and in-service education. Assists in daily operation of the Facilities Management Department. Will serve as a member on Frederick Health’s Environment of Care Committee.

Supports the Mission of Frederick Health and complies with the hospital’s Code of Conduct.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering related field OR relative combination of education and experience required.
  • 2 years of healthcare related facilities management experience.
  • 5 years of commercial related facilities management experience.
  • 5 years of managerial leadership skills.
  • Experience with facility equipment and systems, including but not limited to boilers, chillers, other HVAC equipment, emergency power generators, fire alarm/sprinkler, plumbing systems, medical gas systems, electrical systems, building automation, etc.
  • Experience interacting with architects, engineers, maintenance and tradesmen and processes – including regulatory codes, rules and standards such as NFPA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, etc.
  • Experience with Central Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software, reporting and database management.
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of Mechanical skills and sequence of operations.

Physical Demands:

Medium-Heavy Work – Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.

Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip, the weight of an object or person, body posture, the type of activity and the duration of the task.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Vibration: Operating vibrating tools such as sanders, grinders, chippers, routers, drills and other items can lead to nerve damage.

Working Conditions:

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Risk Category B – MAY have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Reporting Relationship:

Reporting to Director Plant Operations.
