Job Description
We are seeking to hire an Equipment Operator to perform difficult semiskilled work operating, maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and machinery in the collection and disposal of solid waste.
Duties include but not limited to:
Operating refuse truck on an assigned route picking up refuse and operating other landfill and construction equipment;
Operating hydraulic mechanisms for compressing and dumping refuse and places and compacts refuse and covers with earth;
Transporting load to prescribed disposal areas;
Performing pre-trip inspections and making minor repairs; performing preventative maintenance duties on equipment such as changing oil, tires and greasing;
Cleaning refuse truck and equipment;
Maintaining landfill and refuse sites; cleans around containers; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM WORK:
High School Diploma or equivalent
One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment
Or equivalent training, education and experience
Valid commercial driver's license with Class A endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy construction and landfill equipment
Knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment
Skill and care in the operation of several types of construction equipment
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates and the general public
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work regularly requires balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. Requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
