Envelope Technician (19) - 2nd Shift Job at Hallmark Marketing Company
The Envelope Technician position reports through the Lawrence Production Center. Individuals in this department operate equipment that produces a wide variety of envelopes.
This Envelope Technician opening is a full-time position working 40 hrs/week. This is a second shift opportunity. Your schedule would be Monday through Friday, 8 hours (3:30 pm - 12:00 am midnight).
The Envelope Technician in Lawrence produces a wide variety of plain, printed, tinted and designed envelopes by setting up and operating up to two pieces of envelope converting equipment simultaneously. May also operate and pack simultaneously on one piece of envelope converting equipment. Set up could include registered 2 Color inside/outside flexo print, 4 color process print, die cutting, tinting, web alignment, emboss, window patching, foil lining, in-line banding, folding, and self seal. Trouble shoots and makes necessary adjustment to the envelope folders, printers, tinter, bander, and window patch unit on equipment operating at an average speed of 600 envelopes per minute. Adjusts and maintains flexo printing and tinting inks using color monitoring equipment and color judgment to control color balance and consistency. Performs preventive maintenance as well as basic maintenance on the machinery. Acts as the team leader for the press team that includes packer(s). Flexibility is key as incumbent will be expected to learn multiple assignments within this classification.
In this position you will:
- Perform set-up on the envelope folders, printers, tinters, banders, and window patching equipment.
- Have an understanding of flexo inks and chemistry and utilize color matching equipment to control color balance and consistency.
- Operate, troubleshoot and make necessary adjustments in order to maintain specified production and quality.
- Serve as a team leader and communicate effectively.
- Perform basic maintenance on the equipment as well as preventive maintenance.
- Execute the Quality System including preflight, sampling plan and the removal of salvage/spoilage.
- Feed envelope blanks and pack envelopes into cartons.
- Utilize good safety practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
The following is required to be considered for this role:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Successful (as defined by Achieves or better performance rating) experience in 39 Medium Production Operator or 40 Large Production Operator classifications
- Ability to frequently handle items weighing 20 pounds and lift up to 60 pounds 8-15 times daily
- Ability to pass color vision test
- Ability to constantly stand and walk
- Ability to reach, twist, bend, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills approximately 80% of the time
- Ability to frequently work at or above shoulder level and apply adequate torque for critical machine settings
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of successful experience as an Envelope Adjustor
- Demonstrated experience leading a team
- Demonstrated strong mechanical skills and computer skills
- Possess good knowledge inks, color, and their affect in printing and attaining the correct reproduction of product.
- Good analytical skills to assist in making adjustments to the ink to achieve appropriate color
- Experience with liquid inks preferred
- Ability to demonstrate the flexibility and teamwork to positively influence how goal are accomplished within shorter periods of time
- Ability to problem solve technical issues and provide recommendations
- Self-directed and self-motivated with a proven work ethic and ability to perform under pressure to reorganize and change directions when necessary
- Ability to understand and follow established safety procedures for wearing PPE, and handling hazardous chemicals
- Good math, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to learn and retain knowledge
- Ability to lead and provide direction to the assistant press adjustors to ensure safe and efficient production
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Work overtime as required during peak seasons.
- This is a climate-controlled production environment that requires wearing appropriate PPE and following operating procedures when working with hazards from equipment, tools, and chemicals.
- There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark.
This position is located in Lawrence, Kansas. Relocation is not provided.
