Santa Cruz Employment Program/Employment Specialist
Leaders in Community Alternatives, Inc. (LCA) is a community-based criminal justice organization which has been providing services in California for over 25 years. LCA in partnership with the Santa Cruz County Probation Department operates an employment program based in the Santa Cruz Success Center.
We currently have an opening working with individuals on Probation. The Employment Specialist is responsible for developing barrier removal plans with each participant and assisting them with implementing their individual plan. This includes accompanying participants to appointments in the community and assisting them with applicable paperwork, facilitating the purchase of work-related supplies, assisting with transportation, and coordinating other employment-related barrier removal activities.
Minimum qualifications and experience: The Employment Specialist must have experience working with the criminal justice, homeless, substance abusing or unemployed populations within the last two years. They must hold a four-year degree in the Social Sciences or a related field and one-year related work experience in a program setting with this population; or an Associate Degree and the equivalent of two cumulative years of full-time work in a program with this population; or a High School Diploma or GED and four cumulative years of full-time experience in a program with this population. Must have a good driving record.
Desirable characteristics: The Employment Specialist must be well organized, have strong oral and written communication skills, and have cross-cultural sensitivity and competency. They possess integrity, intelligence, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, an understanding and respect for the criminal justice population, and are able to “think outside the box.” The ability to read, write and speak the English language is a must. The ability to communicate in a second language such as Spanish is highly desirable. Must be proficient in MS Office, and have previous database experience. They will have strong organizational and project management skills and be able to work with minimal supervision. They must have interpersonal skills sufficient to provide for the establishment of effective working professional relationships. A valid and clean California driver’s license is a must.
Regular work days and hours: Hours of work are Mondays-Fridays from 8:30AM to 5:00PM
Pay Range $19.00 to 20.00Hr
