Hunter Hamilton is partnering with one of our top clients on their need for an Employee Benefits Consultant. This is a part time, direct hire role.
The Employee Benefits Consultant is responsible for helping clients with the oversight, management, planning and compliance of employee benefit plans and activities. Advanced technical skills with employee benefit programs and compensation-related areas, along with superior qualified retirement plan skills. This role will have the individual spend most of their time with retirement plans and the rest with various other employee benefit programs, such as health & welfare plans. Being pro-active and having passion for the role with a desire to make a meaningful contribution to growing the employee benefits practice is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Advise clients on funding issues, trustee advice and ongoing support around legislative changes.
- You will draft and review plan documents and summary plan descriptions for qualified plans and welfare plans, preparing government filings for qualified plans, and QDRO administration.
- Provide research and counsel for small, middle-market clients on plan administration and compliance issues, including distribution, correction, qualified domestic relations order, serious consideration, determination letter request, company stock, plan asset, merger, and fiduciary issues.
- Individual would be responsible for some preparation, but mostly review of 5500’s.
- Individual will provide consulting on IRS and DoL notices, answer questions on plan design and set up (prototype and nonstandard plans), provide suggestions on how to best utilize changes in tax laws to maximize allowable deductions and identify required amendments needed for plans based on new tax laws.
- Individual will also assist auditors of employee benefit plans in understanding form 5500 to agree schedules to information included in the audited financial statements.
Education and Experience:
- At least 8+ years of employee benefits experience with majority of it working with qualified retirement plans, such as Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plans.
- Strong technical knowledge of ERISA and IRS regulations pertaining to retirement plans.
- Prior experience in a consulting or professional services firm.
- Experience with FT Williams (Form 5500 and Form 8955-SSA) and Go File Room (or other file management software) strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferably in a business discipline, such as accounting or finance).
- ASPPA or CPA credentials strongly preferred.
