Job Summary:

Teachers have an oversight role for all students within the Sigma Academy for Leadership & Early Middle College setting to ensure a safe academic environment conducive to learning. Teachers ensure proper planning and follow up for the academic progress of all students and work cooperatively with other faculty, staff and leadership. Teachers ensure accurate and timely reporting to the School Principal, as required by Sigma Academy for Leadership & Early Middle College (SALEMC) and governmental bodies, regarding students’ performance and challenges, with recommendations for action and a summary of actions taken.

Description of Duties:

Student Academic Achievement

¨ Prepare students to achieve academic growth and proficiency.

¨ Facilitate and communicate knowledge and strategies for learning to students.

¨ Administer assessments approved by the Academy and correct all daily work and exams.

¨ Monitor academic progress of entire class and individual students.

Use of SALEMC Curriculum and Educational Program

¨ Implement SALEMC curriculum and philosophy to the classes he/she is assigned to teach.

¨ Aligning objectives, instruction and practice work to maximize learning.

¨ Manage group work effectively.

¨ Maintain an appropriate pace in every class he or she is assigned to teach.

¨ Ensure that student learning occurs in class.

Classroom Management

¨ Apply Academy and classroom rules consistently and effectively.

¨ Utilize proactive management practices.

¨ Motivate and engage students to succeed.

¨ Communicate expectations to students clearly.

¨ Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.

¨ Supervise students within the Academy setting and on Academy grounds.

Professional Relationships

¨ Motivate students to perform well and respond promptly to student needs.

¨ Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, administration and staff.

¨ Inspire, respect and trust.

¨ Maintain a positive attitude, follow instructions and respond to leadership direction.

¨ Meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.

Accountability

¨ Communicate to School Principal regarding any and all areas of academic concern.

¨ Prepare and maintain accurate and appropriate student attendance and grade records as outlined by the School Principal.

¨ Maintain an orderly, secure, attractive and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning.

¨ Other duties as assigned by the School Principal.

Qualifications:

¨ Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association.

¨ Shall possess a valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s) for all subject area(s) being taught.

¨ Enrollment in alternative certification program is acceptable for consideration.

¨ Teaching experience preferred.

¨ Three (3) letters of recommendation.

¨ Satisfactory performance ratings in delivery of instruction and classroom management.

¨ Satisfactory completion of oral and written interview.

¨ Criminal records clearance.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
