This role has the primary responsibility for technical support, designing, programming, and commissioning of PLC hardware and software on all types of equipment and machinery across the manufacturing network. Oversee a team of Electrical Control Technicians/Engineers and manages accountability to key performance metrics to maximize departmental output.
Technical Expertise and Oversight:
Design, develop, and test electrical equipment, components, and systems.
Apply mathematical and engineering principles and methods to electrical systems designs.
Conduct research to produce design solutions, improvements, and new products.
Collaborate with other discipline engineers, architects and facility operations employees, and contractors on various projects and troubleshooting.
Creates PLC and HMI programs for new process equipment, upgrades, and existing equipment.
Provide technical expertise and direction to employees in the design, construction and operation of complex machinery and equipment used for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.
Perform electrical system calculations, including load analysis, short circuit calculations, protective device coordination studies and arc flash studies using computer-based programs.
Provide technical consultation throughout lifecycle of installed systems to ensure effectiveness of PLC control systems.
Write equipment specifications and standard operating procedures (SOP).
Develop and install control systems in a cost effective and timely manner in accordance with project schedules, budget, requirements, and equipment specifications. Provides progress updates and status of projects and assignments in various formats to internal and external audiences.
Supports, participates, and provides input to engineering and maintenance teams with installation of new technology.
Conducts facility infrastructure assessments, infrastructure/utility master planning, field surveys and code and energy evaluations.
Provide HVAC support utilizing EcoStruxure software by responding to ambient temperature concerns by affected employees.
Maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) in Plant’s 1 & 2, Corporate Office’s 1 & 2, Visitor Center, and Waste Treatment.
Make purchasing decisions for HVAC equipment based on system deterioration and age.
Troubleshoot complex problems associated with Hayssen and TNA baggers, Yamato and Ishida Weigh Scales, Blueprint Case Packers, Key Technology Optic Sorters, Premier Tech Unitizers, Fanuc Robotics systems, Eagle X-ray machines, Datalogic and Keyence Scanners, Lantech and Wultec Wrappers, C&AT & Mathews Conveyor Systems, and other systems as required.
Assist with problem solving on all systems in our Chillicothe, Ohio plant.
Maintain automation Ethernet network in plant’s 1 & 2, BAS system, and Chillicothe, Ohio plant.
Process Improvement:
Analyzes electrical/machinery problems, proactively develops, and implements new solutions, and assists in increasing business growth by improving operations, decreasing down time, and improving customer service.
Tracks key performance metrics and appropriately follows up with team and individuals demonstrating accountability.
Sets department and individual goals and tracks progress, communicating timely with individuals and team about goal performance.
Oversees and manages root cause analysis and makes appropriate determinations and recommendations.
Develops SOPs when needed or appropriate. Holds team accountable for performance.
Supervising Employees:
Directly manages a team of Electrical Control Technicians/Engineers.
Leads and positively influences employees towards maximum goal and KPI achievement and employee’s best performance.
Maintains department performance results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Responsible for recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training new technical employees
Ensures a safe working environment by role modeling the highest safety standards and enforcing all safety standards goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving concerns.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering and 7+ years related experience.
Lean Manufacturing certification/experience a plus.
Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize multiple projects and adjust work against tight deadlines.
Highly organized and self-motivated to complete projects on time
Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, among variety of skill levels and forums (written, oral etc.) to explain technical specifics and instructions to peers, employees, and vendors.
Must possess a stable work history with good references.
Some travel to other facilities, vendors or customer sites may be necessary.
