What You'll Be Doing

"Start A Career that Truly Makes A Difference Within Your Community" This position develops, coordinates, and facilitates non-traditional youth development educational programs and learning activities in the community and in schools. This program works closely with Juvenile Crime prevention professionals in a grant funded through the Wake County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. The position interacts with community partners, other organizations, and individuals to design and implement strategies that successfully address the prevention of at-risk behaviors, such as substance use, teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency and enhance academic success. The position implements youth groups utilizing research-based prevention/intervention group-based life skills development curricula, to provide critical thinking and decision skills enhancement opportunities for youth participants ages 10-18.

The person in this role is part of a program team that recruits, engages, and monitors program volunteers and interns, serves as a liaison to school and community prevention based programs, develops and implements programs to reach underserved and unserved individuals and communities. The position facilitates youth and family program admission assessments, orientation and information sessions and connects youth to appropriate programs and services. The position participates in strategic planning work sessions, team, department division and unit meetings, program evaluations and monitoring and professional development opportunities. The position is responsible for transporting youth safely to and from program activities, maintaining and completing accurate client tracking records and participation in 4-H Youth Development, Wake County and Cooperative Extension events.

About Our Team

Our team consists of several full and part time youth development professionals who implement a juvenile crime prevention program for youth ages 12- 16 and ages 16-18 in Wake County. The team is very task oriented and utilize their collective skills as a team to provide services to youth.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's Degree
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of experience in Public Health or Human Services preferred equivalent combination of experience and education.
Must have a safe driving record

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
1-2 years of experience in a Health or Human Services filed
Experience working with youth ages 10-18
knowledge of the use of experiential learning, positive youth development and asset-based youth programming focused on helping youth enhance their interpersonal skills to thrive.
Ability to create group-based lesson plans and implement group based non-traditional education strategies.
Safe driving record is essential

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday some evenings and weekends 8:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

Hiring Range: 21.42
