The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks a Nurse Education Coordinator to work collaboratively with Director or Nursing (DON), Nursing Leadership, Director of Training and Development, Clinical Management, CCH Registered Nurses (RN), CCH Medical Assistants (MA), and other CCH Integrated Health Care Staff to create a staff education program. This position may also float to all healthcare sites performing direct nursing care as needed. This position is located at 2130 Stout St., Denver, Colorado 80205 and reports to the Director of Nursing Services.

Qualified candidates are eligible for the NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program which offers payment of 60% of unpaid nursing education debt in exchange for a two-year commitment at a NURSE Corps approved site with an option to extend to a third year for an additional 25% of the original balance.

NOTE: In order to ensure that our consumers receive the best possible care the candidate chosen to fill this position will be required to complete our internal credentialing and privileging process prior to a start date. The credentialing and privileging timeline is dependent on the selected candidate's submission of documents necessary for clearance. Please note that a start date will be scheduled once credentialing and privileging is complete.

Essential Job Functions
1. Creates and oversees RN and MA competencies and peer review to ensure that the CCH Nursing Department follows all nursing board standards, medical board standards, and credentialing and privileging standards. The Nurse Education Coordinator must work closely with RN and MA management to ensure quality of care is standardized across all CCH programs, and staff are held accountable to set standards. The Nurse Education Coordinator will also create additional workflows around supervision for staff who may need additional supplementary education and/or support.
2. In collaboration with the Nursing and MA Leadership teams, creates a robust onboarding process for new RN’s and MA’s.
3. Develops, organizes, promotes, runs, and evaluates an internal RN and MA educational program at CCH to ensure RN’s and MA’s are being utilized at their highest scope of practice.
  • The development of an education program requires collaboration of all integrated health care staff and includes education of non-RN and MA members on how to utilize RN and MA staff appropriately.
  • This position must continually be the subject matter expert on scope of practice for RN, EMT, CNA and MA positions.
  • Assists DON to write, update, review and educate RN and MA staff on policies, procedures and standing orders for staff at CCH.
  • Researches and promotes continuing education opportunities that fit with current job duties and vision for RN and MA work at CCH.
  • Ensures education is collaborative, evidenced based, integrated, appropriate for homeless population, and trauma informed.
  • Helps ensure that communication and training is regular and routine by creating and facilitating a schedule of regular meetings and ongoing trainings.
4. Participates and leads quality improvement programs for the nursing department or in conjunction with other integrated departments, as directed.
5. Works with the Clinical Placement Coordinator and Nursing Leadership to ensure a positive educational experience for MA and RN students
6. Provides skilled nursing care according to accepted community standards of care to preserve or enhance the patient’s highest level of functioning. This RN should be able to float as an RN throughout CCH as needed and fulfill duties as noted within the RN job description.
7. Meet required COVID-19 vaccination(s), as defined by applicable law, regulation, or guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

​Qualifications Summary
1. AD, BSN, or MSN in nursing from an accredited college or university.
2. Current licensure from the State of Colorado to practice as a Registered Nurse.
3. Certification in Basic Life Support.
4. Successful completion of the privileging and credentialing process for RNs at the Coalition.
5. Preferred experience training other nursing staff.
6. Preferred preceptor experience.
7. Preferred supervisory experience.
8. Preferred experience in ambulatory, public or community nursing.
9. Preferred experience of trauma-informed care.
