About the Dual Career Program

Recruiting first-rate faculty and staff is a top priority for Cornell, and in support of that goal the Cornell Dual Career Program is a resource to spouses and partners of newly hired faculty and senior leaders in the areas of relocation services, onboarding and career consulting services for those spouse/partners seeking employment, in the Tompkins County/Finger Lakes Regions.


The Opportunity

In this role you will have three primary responsibilities:

  • You will serve as the conduit to information and resources for program eligible spouse and partners. This position provides consultative services for employment searches, including information about the local and regional employment market, future hiring trends, coordination of informational meetings with internal and external networks.
  • You will oversee the university’s relocation vendor relationships.
  • You will coordinate community outreach efforts in support of Ithaca/Tompkins County area residents’ access to campus employment opportunities and in support of the university’s DEI efforts.

What We Need

We are looking for a teammate who has professional experience connecting individuals to opportunities and resources, and who is familiar with the Tompkins County/Finger Lakes region employment market. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with effective communication skills and proven ability to engage effectively at a strategic level within a decentralized and complex organizational environment.


Specifically, we seek people with the following required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in, HR, Psychology, Business Administration or other related field and a minimum of 5 - 7 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using a consultative approach with job seekers and hiring authorities.
  • Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, particularly the ability to influence without direct authority with a wide range of stakeholders, both within Cornell, the local community and Upstate region.
  • Experience in developing rapport with diverse and high performing internal and external talent pools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, regulations associated policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate both positive and negative feedback to ALL candidates/employees in a professional manner.
  • Provide a seamless, enjoyable, and consistent talent experience.
  • Unparalleled ability to maintain confidentiality.


There are just two additional areas of expertise that we would find beneficial but are not required:

  • Career counseling experience.
  • Deep understanding of and involvement with the Tompkins County business, employer and workforce development community and resources.

  • This position is located in Ithaca, New York and will allow for the flexibility to work remotely but will require frequent meetings at on campus locations. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
