DSHS SCC Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2
We are seeking professionals who are able to quickly adapt to their environment, possess the skills to proactively manage situations, and are effective team members. As a Residential Rehabilitation Counselor, you will work as part of a team responsible for implementing strategies that contribute to the treatment and rehabilitation of our residents. You will provide direct care to transitioning residents and encourage them to work towards their treatment goals.
We have full-time and on-call opportunities available- SCC employees receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free Orca card for transportation use
- Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees from Steilacoom dock
- Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
- Ensure that a therapeutic environment is maintained at the facility
- Assist and guide residents in meeting their treatment goals
- Provide guidance and training to residents with living skills (cooking, cleaning, money management, shopping, personal hygiene, etc.)
- Coach and counsel residents with problem-solving
- Escort residents to community appointments and activities
- Assist in maintaining the safety and security of the living environment
- Monitor residents and staff interactions, intervene to control resident's behavior and de-escalate interactions if needed
- Communicate with and assist local law enforcement and criminal justice partners
- Write detailed reports
What we're looking for:
- Ability to respond appropriately to negative behavior
- Effective verbal techniques to diffuse situations
- Knowledge of CPR and first responder level first aid
- Clear and concise writing skills
Who should apply?
Professionals with one of the following:
- High school graduation or GED and two years of experience providing direct care to psychiatric patients, residents, or inmates in a residential or in-patient mental health setting
- Or, satisfactory completion of the Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 1 in-training plan
- Equivalent education*/experience will also be considered
- College-level coursework will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
