The Director of Student Activities is part of the Division of Student Affairs and serves as the leader of the department. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Students, your role will be responsible for providing strategic direction for the office that leads student engagement and development. Student Activities is the home for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership and Service, Main Campus Program Board, registered student organizations, the Service Immersion Program, Temple Student Government, and major campus events like Weeks of Welcome and Homecoming and Family Weekend.
You will oversee various department budgets, assessment projects, and hiring practices. You will directly supervise three Assistant Directors and an Administrative Assistant. Additionally, you will provide indirect supervision for three Program coordinators. This supervision includes professional development, performance evaluations, and support for daily work. You will also showcase your collaborative spirit by being an advisor to Temple Student Government, participating in the Division’s Leadership Team and leading or contributing to various work groups like the Weeks of Welcome Committee.
The Director contributes to a positive university experience for every student and is accountable to all the Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) Values. The DoSA values are Excellence, Inclusion, Innovation, Integrity, and Respect. The position contributes to the Division of Student Affairs’ efforts to “Engage. Develop. Retain.”
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience, Skills & Abilities:
Master’s degree with concentration in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field; minimum of seven years of related experience.
Experience in student development, assessment, and leadership training, and with fraternity/sorority life and large event planning and execution.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills in departmental planning, program and service delivery, and assessment and evaluation.
Demonstrated experience with budget tracking and forecasting.
Demonstrated ability to create and cultivate collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents and other university constituencies.
Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations of students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Strong professional staff and supervision experience.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends (when needed).
Ability to organize multiple projects.
