The Office of Advancement works to inspire philanthropic support for UC Law SF through meaningful, compelling, and comprehensive alumni engagement. Our goal is to build a sustainable culture of engagement and philanthropy among stakeholders that helps to 1) attract and retain diverse, high-achieving students; 2) ease students' debt burdens; 3) prepare students to pass the bar; and 4) maximize students' employment options and outcomes after graduation. Stakeholders play a crucial role in helping the College achieve these goals by furthering its mission of delivering exceptional teaching, influential scholarship, and exemplary public service.

THE ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer in the Office of Advancement, the Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations is responsible for planning, implementing, and promoting a culture of gratitude through a comprehensive and strategic program based on the key tenants of donor relations: gift acknowledgment, gift stewardship, donor recognition, and donor engagement, to further UC Law SF's engagement and fundraising goals. This role leads the donor relations program for the law school in support of fundraising objectives and projects and stewards the philanthropic commitments made by donors.

Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and oversee the execution of a segmented gift acknowledgement program to thank donors in a manner appropriate to their gift, ensuring they are timely, meaningful, and documented in the donor's record.
  • Lead fund reporting to donors, particularly named and endowed funds, as well as fund stewardship activities, that ensure donor funds are expended appropriately and donors are kept well-informed about the use and impact of their gifts.
  • Produce and distribute on an annual basis personalized donor impact reports to benefactors who have established named funds or who have contributed significantly to existing funds.
  • Actively work with gift officers to propose, develop, and execute customized stewardship strategies for select donors.
  • Liaise with the College's Foundation Board's Stewardship Committee to guide their stewardship efforts and activities.
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues across departments – both faculty and staff – to engage them in the stewardship and donor relations process.
  • Work proactively as a member of the Advancement team to recommend and advise on the recognition of donors in both print and web-based publications, as well as impact reporting and extraordinary stewardship opportunities, as needed.
  • Lead the production of an Annual Report of Philanthropy.
  • Write special-purpose donor correspondence and other highly customized donor communications, as needed.
  • Plan and execute the annual year-end Chancellor's Reception, the College's signature stewardship event, as well as other events for groups and individuals, as needed.
  • Create and manage a campus-wide inventory of donor recognition named spaces and suggested donations, with an emphasis on parity, consistency, and adherence to guidelines, and develop tools that assist development officers in securing major gifts for key naming opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer, oversee the creation and implementation of donor recognition areas, including named space plaques and signage, and lifetime and campaign donor recognition electronic displays or walls.
  • Create and implement a set of metrics to measure donor relations' impact on organizational goals and use these metrics to create a donor relations annual plan that advances the organization's overall fiscal year goals.
  • Represent the UC Law SF Advancement team on internal or external committees, or at public functions as required.
