The Director of Pharmacy Operations will be responsible for acute and chronic home infusion services in multiple sites. Integrates the philosophies and techniques of quality improvement, integration of cross-functional teamwork, selection of equipment, budget adherence and development, policy and procedure development, and staff development within the department for pharmacy and nursing.
Provides direction for providing pharmaceutical/nursing care and services throughout the service lines. Ensures that services are provided in compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, ACHC standards, URAC standards (where applicable), and the mission and policies of the company and department.
Recruits, hires, mentors, and provides leadership for the staff. Monitors and analyzes the budget and consumption of resources for areas of responsibility to ensure cost-effective services. Participates in and supports various collaborative committees to promote pharmacy’s role in delivering optimal patient care.
Directs staff education programs and competency assessment programs to ensure continued compliance of clinical staff. Participates in educational and research initiatives in line with the organization’s mission. Supports the provision of patient care activities for a variety of patient populations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee operations of pharmacy/nursing services in accordance with patient care needs, department strategic plan, medical staff policy, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) standards, state, and federal pharmacy laws, Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) standards (where applicable) and the needs of Paragon Healthcare. This includes end-to-end operations responsibilities, including pharmacist infusion nurses, billing, and intake.
- Ensures compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory requirements. Manages compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards and guidelines.
- Develops systems and structures to ensure appropriate oversight and control of medications and medication distribution processes.
- Selects, coaches, motivates, and aids in developing a fully qualified staff.
- Leads multi-disciplinary teams of pharmacists, pharm techs, and nurses to ensure medication production, verification, and administration in an environment focused on safety and quality.
- Provides critical input into the selection, configuration, and implementation of pharmacy information systems and pharmacy automation to support pharmacy operations, including workflow, safe prescribing practices, regulatory compliance, inventory control, and financial reporting for pharmacy services.
- Develops and implements new approaches and strategies to optimize operating resources.
- Analyzes resource consumption (e.g., FTEs and medication use) to ensure efficient and effective use of these resources.
- Budget requirements, such as operating expenses and required staffing hours, are managed accordingly and consistently reviewed.
- Quality and patient satisfaction is maintained within defined standards through oversight of systems that provide for proper controls of the pharmacy services.
- Visibly demonstrates a commitment to process improvement by actively seeking and using customer feedback to improve services.
