Director of Curriculum and Training - (Full Time)

Children’s Choice Initiative is seeking a Full Time Director of Curriculum and Training. This person will serve in a key leadership position to oversee the further development of our curriculum, training offerings and delivery, and will be a member of our leadership team.

The Director of Curriculum and Training will help us shape the direction of reading competency for K-5 students across the state of Michigan. We are a nonprofit organization focused on providing crucial Structured Literacy skills training to teachers and practitioners who work with K-5 students on a daily basis. We strongly believe that providing teachers with additional skills and tools to more effectively connect with students who are encountering reading challenges proactively increases their confidence and success across all subjects. We strive to “Unlock Children’s Unlimited Potential Through Reading™” and help increase reading proficiency rates that continue to measure well below an acceptable level.

OVERVIEW:

Serving as a dynamic member of our leadership team, the incumbent will lead curriculum development and oversight, and the training delivery of Structured Literacy training programs offered by the organization.

The Director of Curriculum and Training will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the organization, both internally and externally.

The Director of Curriculum and Training will recruit, train, and oversee an impactful cadre of contract (1099) instructors. Will be responsible to evaluate trainers and constructively improve their training delivery as well as integrate learnings from the field into curriculum improvements.

The Director of Curriculum and Training will work collaboratively with Chief Operating Officer and Business Development Director to efficiently ensure departmental needs are fulfilled as well as serve as a critical contributor to the planning and integration of future objectives. This may include crossover duties from time to time.

The successful candidate must understand the necessity of staying up to date with current literacy practices, state recommendations and is willing to re-evaluate programming as needed. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with a vested interest in improving literacy rates in Michigan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ Years of experience in the Education sector, preferably as a former Educator or Literacy Coach, with a specialty in Language Arts, English, and/or K-5 Literacy Essentials.
  • Bachelor’s degree mandatory, Masters or greater preferred.
  • Expert level competency in Structured Literacy. Working knowledge of Evidence Based Learning concepts, and current literacy instruction methods a plus.
  • Curriculum Development experience a must.
  • Experience delivering professional development training to and adult audience. (ie: Teachers & Administrators and Paraprofessionals)
  • Previous staff training and/or supervision experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, in a remote work setting as a member of a team, while successfully managing workload to achieve individual metrics and organizational goals.
  • Proficient with use of technology, including but not limited to, email, laptop, web-based resources, and training tools as needed. Must be comfortable with using MS Office Suite, Google Drive, etc. Familiarity or use of CRM helpful. Ability to actively seek and utilize new technologies as needed.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends when needed.
  • Access to transportation and willingness to travel as needed to deliver training, attend meetings, conferences and / or evaluate training staff.
  • Must be a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits offered include health care stipend, Simple IRA with 3% match, monthly cell phone stipend, with flexible scheduling, generous Paid Time Off and paid holidays.

LOCATION: Remote position based in Michigan. Must be able to work from home-based office and travel to in person trainings, meetings and events as needed.
