Reporting to the Associate Provost, The Director of Course Design & Development advances the use of educational technology to assist students in meeting learning outcomes while optimizing their learning experience. The director leverages technology to collaboratively create engaging residential, blended, and online learning environments, facilitates the collection and analysis of select program effectiveness data, and champions use of data in continuous quality improvement efforts. The Director supervises the Course Design & Development team.
Lead course design using adult learning theory and evidence-based design principles.- Integrate sound, evidence-based educational technology into courses.
- Collaborate with academic affairs team members to create residential, hybrid, and online courses, and support quality improvement processes.
- Modify courses based on adoption of new e-learning courseware and resources.
- Direct all Learning Management System (“LMS”) related academic processes and serve as primary academic liaison the IT department.
- Manage the LMS from an academic perspective.
- Oversee course design and development projects.
- Develop and continually improve e-learning courseware and resources.
- Provide technical support for e-learning courseware and resources hosted on the LMS.
- Facilitate training for faculty and staff related to e-learning courseware and resources (including onboarding and up-training).
- Conduct needs analyses to identify gaps in practice and ongoing training needs and recommend corrective solutions.
- Manage relationships with e-learning courseware vendors in relation to product integration and use.
- Participate in budget development of e-learning courseware, monitor budget, and report variances when appropriate.
- Undertake and manage projects, activities, or responsibilities as assigned by the office of the Provost.
- Manage direct reports in accordance with College practices and procedures (e.g.. semesterly check-ins, performance management, and regular 1:1 meetings)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Masters’ degree or higher in education, instructional design, or other relevant field- 7 years’ experience in higher education as an instructor, course design, or education technology with increasing responsibility
- 2 or more years’ experience in a role with direct reports
