POSITION
In Detroit, Leading Educators provides both district and school level support as a way to advance equity in sustainable ways. In this role, we are working with school-based leadership teams with a focus on supporting principals in improving instructional practices through teacher development. This work is driven by the use of high quality curriculum, data, professional development and job-embedded coaching. This inspiring work will directly influence district, school and classroom level change through the creation of effective instructional leadership.
The Director of Content and Coaching - Math role is an exciting opportunity to support professional learning and impactful and innovative work across Detroit Schools. The DOCC will design and facilitate professional learning to support school leaders to be strong math centered instructional leaders and learning for lead teachers that prepares them to be confident and ready to lead grade level planning sessions. In the context of this work, the Director of Math Content and Coaching builds strong relationships with our district partners, engages in a discovery process to understand the partner's needs, and contributes to the partnership strategy.
Finally, as part of the Leading Educators Detroit team, the DOCC will work closely with school and district leaders around systems conditions, curriculum implementation, data analysis, problems of practice and long term planning to ensure that we build local capacity to sustain the project outcomes by the end of the contract term.
This position reports to the Senior Director and will work in close collaboration with other Detroit design and coaching colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and Customization
Lead and/or support the design of professional learning (e.g. coaching resources, professional learning observation tools/systems , instructional strategies, etc.) for district leaders, and teacher leaders aligned to the district’s math priorities outlined in the scope of work.
Design math learning sessions based on the CCSS shifts, learning acceleration vs remediation, and Great Minds Eureka Math curriculum.
Leadership Coaching
Provide coaching and support to school principals to ensure effective instruction and curriculum implementation. On-going coaching may include, but is not limited to:
Observe classrooms alongside school leaders and school instructional team to analyze instruction to determine impact and next steps for professional learning
Monitor progress and next steps for school-based professional learning plans
Data and Evaluation
Evaluate school conditions necessary for equitable instructional practices and strong professional learning
Analyze school- and district-level data to support goal setting and coaching practices
Build systems to monitor and support program implementation and continuous improvement
Capacity Building and Client Management
Build trusting relationships with district/system-leaders, school-leaders and/or teacher-leaders. Align development needs across these stakeholder groups
Develop the school-based leaders to build capacity in lead teachers and ILT members
Design and lead structures, such as co-observations, session planning and event debriefs, with district and school leaders to deepen their capacity for content-specific professional learning
Learning and Development
Participate in internal learning communities to capture and leverage bright spots in core innovation and discoveries from problems of practice
Engage in self-directed learning of the research-base that aligns to the project’s scope of work (e.g, mathematics, culturally relevant pedagogy, intervention, etc.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE HIRED FOR THE ROLE:
Leading Educators require that all employees are fully vaccinated (includes a booster dose at least 5 months after the last dose in the primary series) against COVID-19, unless an accommodation has been approved. New hires must show proof of being fully vaccinated by the end of the first month of employment.
Candidates must be able to travel, unless an accommodation has been approved. For this role, travel to Detroit (monthly for multiple days), and national travel for org retreats, programming or professional development required.
Candidates must:
Demonstrate commitment to educational equity and anti-racism
Be able to build trusting relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders
Have significant knowledge and experience with supporting teachers in internalizing and adapting curriculum
Have an appetite/comfort for being successful in context that shifts quickly in order to meet the needs of school leadership teams
Have knowledge and successful application of adult learning design and facilitation best practices, particularly experience with content-specific adult learning
Have at least 4 years of math classroom teaching experience (K-5) and at least 3 years of instructional leadership experience
Have significant mathematical knowledge and experience with Common Core instruction
Have experience with or knowledge of Eureka curriculum is preferred
Have nuanced knowledge of College and Career Readiness Math Standards and how to prioritize them coherently in order to address students’ unfinished learning and gaps
Have foundational knowledge of the CCSS ELA shifts
LOCATION
When not traveling to Detroit (1 trip per month for multiple nights) and 25% national travel for org retreats, programming or professional development required), the DOCC-Math, will work from a home office that can be located anywhere in the US.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements and Travel
Leading Educators lives our value of prioritizing people, and puts the safety of our partners, our students, and our staff first. We know that in order for students to receive excellent and equitable education every day, their health and wellbeing must be prioritized. As of January 31st, 2022, Leading Educators requires that all employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless an accommodation has been approved. We define fully vaccinated as a booster dose at least 5 months after the primary dose in the primary series. Business travel and in-person work is considered required for every role, although the frequency of business travel and in-person work will vary across teams and roles. Leading Educators will comply with applicable federal and state laws, as well as EEOC Guidance and will consider any requests for accommodations for medical, religious or as otherwise required by applicable law. New hires must show proof of being fully vaccinated by the end of the first month of employment.
COMPENSATION
If hired for this position, the compensation range for this position is between $85,534 and $136,856 annually. Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience and in alignment with internal equity. Candidates, either newly hired or new to the role, can typically expect a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. In addition, Leading Educators offers a very generous benefits package including 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees. Additional premium costs are covered 60% by Leading Educators for partners and dependents on medical, dental, and vision plans. We also offer a 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits are valued at or above $9,000 for employees.
Additionally, Leading Educators offers generous time off with pay in order to support a sustainable high performance work culture. During the first three years of employment, full time staff accrue 22 days a year. Five additional days are accrued after the third and sixth year of employment. Leading Educators also offers 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays staff may use at their discretion.
