Under the supervision of the CEO, the Director of Communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley’s mission. The Director of Communications will serve as a member of the executive leadership team within the organization and will work closely with all members as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate YWCA’s annual communications plan for a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement communications strategy to create momentum and awareness of the YWCA brand, image, and mission in the community.
- Creates and posts all social media content including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Responsible for YWCA’s media relations/public relations initiatives and serves as the organization’s media spokesperson. Manages all media contacts.
- Develops relationships with media outlets and is responsible for generating media coverage for sponsored special events, donations, initiatives, and services hosted by YWCA.
- Works closely with Director of Development to support marketing, planning, and implementation of all special events.
- Responsible for the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and website.
- Leads website maintenance – ensures that new and consistent content is posted regularly and in a timely manner.
- Writes, edits, and disseminates a variety of communications including press releases, marketing material, and presentations.
- Tracks and measures the level of engagement with YWCA brand over time.
- Manages approval of and assists staff in preparation for internal and external YWCA presentations.
- Responsible for approval and completion of all YWCA marketing material.
- Ensures brand advocacy and fidelity in compliance with the strategic business plan goals of YWCA USA.
- Works with program directors and other staff to promote agency programs and services and increase awareness of services to the community and potential clients.
- Attends and represents YWCA in external community fairs and events, as appropriate.
- Maintains confidentiality of donor and client information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred qualifications:
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies. Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
- Excellent writing/editing, verbal, and digital communication skills.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including a diverse range of staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
- Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
- Must have an understanding of the mission of the YWCA, and enthusiasm for the people served and the programs created.
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- A relationship-builder with excellent interpersonal skills in person by phone and in writing.
- Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills.
- Self-starter, able to work independently and part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple social media platforms, as well as proficiency in WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, English or relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
Pay Information: $45,000 to $50,000 annually
Schedule:
- 37.5 hours weekly
- Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, 30-minute unpaid break during shift
