The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College invites applications for a Director of Career Services. This full-time administrative position manages all aspects of Career Services, including student success, internships, employment, and graduate school goals as set by individuals, develops strong working relationships with employers, students, graduates, alumni, and university departments and personnel, initiates and evaluates all current and potential career services offered, and seeks and maintains up-to-date knowledge of career fields and trends (including local, regional, state, and national demands).

Principal Duties:
  • Direct a comprehensive career development program for students with the goal of helping students secure professional employment upon graduation
  • Implement a career readiness program to include: resume assistance, dress-for-success, mock
  • interviews, etiquette events, etc.
  • Establish goals for students appropriate for each year/level of schooling and with various majors, i.e. personality assessment, skills assessment, to further determine a timeline and pathway for graduation
  • Administer and help students and job-seekers interpret personality, skills, and other career-related assessments.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with employers for job, co-op, and internship opportunities, and in collaboration with departmental faculty, place and track students for internship and co-op positions
  • Plan and host a Career Fair (primarily) for graduates. Work with local agencies to establish and grow community connections
  • Create and Maintain a digital Job Board; use and instruct usage of job sites and search-engines
  • Provide instruction for graduate school application.
  • Broaden and facilitate career outreach to, and with the assistance of, Rio alumni
  • Assist with professional development for departmental/divisional staff; i.e. student success coaches
  • Coordinate placement data with all academic departments, and provide placement assistance to students from all departments, esp. as requested by departmental faculty. Maintain master database of all students placements for State reporting
  • Market the University’s Career Services program to relevant constituencies
  • Work closely with institutional personnel toward student development and desired placement outcomes
  • Plan, develop, and supervise the delivery of career programs and workshops, including with the use and enhancement of technology
  • Provide individual career guidance and counseling to students, graduates, and alumni
  • Ensure and promote data collection across departments
  • Manage on-site recruiting, foster existing relationships with employers, and seek new opportunities for student employment, incl. full-time career, and summer
Posiiton Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum five years of management experience in an academic setting, or with a combined corporate career counseling experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, and with a range of individuals and populations
  • Sensitivity to diversity
  • Ability to work independently, and to also function as a team leader and/or member
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated technical skills
