Summary Statement
An incumbent is responsible for leading and managing a distributed team of professionals who are responsible for the design, planning, integration, implementation, and support of technology in learning spaces, computer labs, large event, and conference spaces across College’s four campus locations. The Director of Audio Visual (A/V) Administration is responsible for facilitating excellent customer service for all internal and external customers, as well as leveraging their in-depth knowledge of College technologies, tools, and services to support staff and student success. In addition, this position assists the vice president for information and instructional technology in strategic planning for the Information and Instructional Technology Division.

Nature and Scope
An incumbent in this class reports directly to the vice president for information and instructional technology and supervises staff at multiple campus and site locations. The Director designs and develops audio visual system specifications and standards for classrooms, distance education classrooms, boardrooms, conference rooms and all A/V facilities. The Director of A/V also provides leadership in managing production support of and provisioning A/V resources for college events. The Director establishes policies and enforces a standards-based approach to technology services and event support to provide effective stewardship of technology resources, while providing exceptional customer service to users. The Director works closely with key stakeholders, including representatives from the vice president’s divisions, campus administrative councils, workforce development and community education offices and deans’ offices.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Directs and oversees the college-wide classroom and A/V technologies groups responsible for design, planning, integration, implementation, and support of technology in learning, large event, meeting, and conference spaces.
  • Prepares documentation and plans for A/V technical services staff and outside A/V design consultant use. Acts as a liaison with construction contractors, project managers, A/V integrators.
  • Provides fiscal and management leadership for all A/V related projects.
  • Coordinates A/V technical service efforts with campus facilities, outside architects/integrators, A/V consultants, equipment A/V distributors and manufacturer’s designers and engineers.
  • Provides oversight of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of classroom/conference A/V equipment; develops short and long-term schedules for equipment upgrades and replacement.
  • Attends training and courses to remain current on state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Investigates new instructional technologies and makes specific equipment recommendations to the vice president for information and instructional technology and appropriate vice presidents and campus directors with supporting budgetary information.
  • Works with the director of instructional design and technology to develop and deploy instructional training and materials for college staff and faculty in proper use of new technologies. Employs Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles as a framework to design learning spaces that support inclusive opportunities for diverse learners.
  • Evaluates, plans, and oversees the setup of large events for programs such as commencement, Board of Trustees meetings, ceremonies, and other events.
  • Collaborates with the vice president of information and instructional technology and other IIT directors to develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the overall vision, mission, direction, goals, and objectives of the division. Makes recommendations for policies and procedures for operation of technologies.
  • Assists with the preparation of annual reports with information regarding utilization, trends, and anticipated changes.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Ability to think critically and develop solutions quickly.

  • Ability to solve complex technical problems with creative and functional solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
  • 6 years of experience providing customer service, technical and A/V support, preferably in a higher education environment with experience managing professional staff.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
