Job Duties: The Virginia Department of Corrections seeks to hire a dynamic leader to serve as the Executive Director in the Division of Administration. The Board of Local and Regional Jails is responsible for developing and establishing minimum operational and fiscal standards governing the operation of local and regional jails, for creating the rules and regulations necessary to implementing those standards, for certifying compliance with those standards, and for the review of inmate deaths that occur in any local or regional jail.

The Virginia Department of Corrections supports the work of the Board of Local and Regional Jails (Board). The Board is responsible for certifying Local and Regional jails based on standards developed by the Board. The Board also conducts death investigations in local and regional jails. The Board’s Executive Director, employed by the DOC, is responsible for providing support to the Board and provides leadership to DOC staff assigned to the Board.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience providing regulatory and compliance guidance to stakeholders. Experience developing operational and compliance standards and possess a strong understanding of regulatory requirements. Experience conducting audits on organizational policies and operating procedures. Ability to direct administrative activities involving complex, confidential information. Working knowledge of FOIA requirements. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to make presentations. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and establish cooperative and effective working relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree preferred. Considerable working knowledge of correctional/jail operating procedures and standards. Demonstrated proficiency writing and reviewing legislative proposals and managing the regulatory process. Considerable experience in a leadership role in a jail or correctional setting. Experience conducting jail or correctional audits.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $66,380.00 - $122,804.00 per year
