POSITION: Director, Counseling & Access Services
Description of Duties: Responsible for planning, developing and administering the College's counseling and access services. Report directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Life. Provide counseling services to a diverse community college student population and assist students in understanding and overcoming personal, educational, social and career issues. Develop, recommend and provide counseling services, student access services. Provide crisis intervention and respond to Campus incidents requiring counseling services. Develop, implement and evaluate the policies, procedures, programs and administrative support of Counseling and Access Services. Provide supervision and consultation to the Coordinator, Student Access Services and contract counseling. Maintain client records and documentation in accordance with appropriate HIPAA and legal requirements. Keep abreast of current developments in governmental regulations, higher education practices, counseling best practices, disability laws and other related matters. Coordinate with Campus Security, Residence Life, Office of Student Conduct, faculty and staff to provide crisis intervention, counseling and referral services to students. Responsible for maintaining department/program budgets and reporting statistical and budget information to appropriate entities. Manage, promote and utilize the campus online counseling service, Therapy Assistance Online (TAO). Communicate, collaborate and consult with faculty/staff to increase student success. Engage in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques. Develop and present mental health related programs, seminars and workshops. Collaborate with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Campus Security and law enforcement regarding student/employee concerns. Serve as a member of the Threat Assessment & Behavior Intervention Team (TABIT) and collaborate with TABIT team members. Prepare a variety of required reports and surveys in a timely and accurate manner. Refer students to relevant community resources and appropriate professional care as needed. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. Supervise full-time professional, contract, classified, part-time and work-study employees. Work under minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field. Licensed as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LBP, or related licensure. Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience counseling diverse populations and providing crisis intervention. Demonstrated management experience in a multi-faceted work environment. Proven leadership and supervisory skills. Effective management of multiple budgets. Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Professional competency and knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA. Display the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality at all times. Moderate lifting up to 35 lbs. and moderate carrying up to 35 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus sites/facilities.
Desired Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in related discipline. Ten (10) years counseling experience working in an educational setting, to include the supervision of others. Excellent problem-solving skills.
