Job Summary:

The Direct Care Staff - Nightwatch is responsible for the evening/nightly care and supervision of children placed at the facility; ensuring their health, safety and well-being are protected.

THIS JOB REQUIRES A 4 DAY 12 HOUR ROTATIONAL SHIFT (4 DAYS ON/4 DAYS OFF 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.)

We are located on the far southside of San Antonio. Roosevelt and I-410.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Ensuring compliance with Therapeutic Intervention Plan (TIP)
  • Supervises residents in activities in order to observe or effect changes in their social behavior. Teaches rules, manners, policies for interpersonal relationships, personal care, etc.
  • Completes shift documentation including but not limited to residential case notes, incident reports, and resident inventory; also required to complete documentation requested by clinical or medical staff such as sleep logs and behavior checklists.
  • Observes methods/techniques of clinical staff and participates in treatment of residents in interaction, limit setting, and implementation of treatment plans; also responsible for co-facilitation and involvement in clinical groups.
  • Escorts residents to groups, interviews, meetings, mealtime, recreation, education activities, medical appointments, and participates in supervision and instruction.
  • Maintains age appropriate rules and enforces the behavioral management system, including proper conduct of residents during work, recreation, and education.
  • May administer and record medication as ordered by physician
  • Works to prevent unacceptable behavior in resident or group.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed.
  • Maintains professional boundaries between self and residents to ensure appropriateness in the working relationship.
  • Communicates all appropriate information internally and externally to facilitate the treatment of the resident.
  • Must be available to work various shifts on multiple days of the week.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Shares/transmits the mission and vision of Guiding Light RTC to staff and to clients and families served.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, and Guiding Light RTC policy.
  • Review client files on a periodic basis to become familiarized with the specific, individualized needs and goals of the residents in their care.

Qualifications:

  • Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and provide proof of a Tuberculosis Screening within the last twelve months.
  • Provide proof of valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must be willing and available to work after hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing and available to work overtime hours as requested.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must pass a preemployment drug screen

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Experience working In a residential facility with abused/neglected children and their families and/or experience in separation, attachment and permanency issues is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel; and reach with hands or arms.

The Direct Care Staff must be able to physically and mentally endure long periods of interaction with individual and groups of children; this may include but is not limited to free play, emotionally draining conversations; continuous severe behavior problems requiring one-to-one supervision; severe oppositional/defiant behavior, etc.

In addition, the employee may be required to restrain (physically hold a child who is in danger of hurting themselves or others). Child Care Staff may be required to carry a child weighing no more than 50 pounds.
