Job Posting – Deputy Court Clerk – Full-Time – 40 hours per week (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
54-B District Court is in East Lansing, Michigan (home of Michigan State University) and has a population of over 48,000 residents which includes a large, diverse university demographic.

Requirements:
- A desire to earn $36,078.22 - $48,296.14 annually/ $17.3453 - $23.2193 per hour.
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent; college course work preferred.
- Type a minimum of 50 wpm.
- Work independently or as part of a team.
- Comfortable engaging with Court customers who represent various demographics and socio-economic levels. Embracing workplace diversity is also essential.
- Proficient user of technology, including remote videoconferencing technology, to improve processes for the benefit of the Court and its users.
- Ability to learn Court’s case management software, Microsoft Office, and other computer programs utilized by the Court.

54-B DISTRICT COURT -Job Description-
Job Title: Deputy Court Clerk Division: As assigned
General Summary: Monitor case files from open to close. Maintain all files to ensure they are up to date and appropriate action taken. Take payments over the phone and at the counter. Operate LEIN terminal. Assist with general clerical duties in the Clerks’ Office. Operate various technology and computer systems utilized by the court, including its case management software.
Supervision Received: Works under limited supervision of the Senior Court Clerks.
Supervision Exercised: None
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Open, process, and close case files.
2. Schedule court hearings.
3. Distribute Court calendars.
4. Prepare documents for the Judge’s signature.
5. Prepare files for appeal and/or bind over.
6. Respond to inquiries from court customers.
7. Prepare statistics and reports as required by the Court Administrator.
8. Operate LEIN terminal.
9. Take payments over the phone and at the counter.
10. Utilize various technology for efficient workflow and caseflow management.
11. Operate the Court’s case management software.
12. Assist with Virtual Counter
13. Assist other divisions as assigned.
14. Additional duties as assigned.

The primary purpose of this job description is to set a fair and equitable rate of pay for this classification. Only those key duties necessary for job evaluation and/or labor market analysis have been included. Other duties will be assigned by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION
High School Education or equivalent. Must be able to type 50 wpm and have basic clerical skills.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Two years in a legal setting that involves clerical, computer, and cash receipting experience.
MANDATORY LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION
None prior to employment. Once employed, must take Certified Court Recorder Examination and perform duties of a back-up court recorder.
PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED
Essential functions require maintaining a physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods, general manual dexterity; adequate vision, speech and hearing required. Must be able to operate assigned equipment.
