The Data & Analytics Analyst is responsible for developing and supporting data and analytics solutions that drive value. The Data and Analytics Analyst will partner with business teams to fully understand the problem being solved, extract and prep data, build analytic models, visualizations and front-end tools needed to infuse the insights into our business process. The Data & Analytics analyst will contribute to the development of analytics best practices, data governance policies and data stewardship procedures and assist in the ongoing sustainability of solutions by both adhering to and promoting process and technology standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Consult with business partners to fully understand the problem(s) to be solved.

• Research, acquire, organize, combine, and transform data and information from internal and external sources.

• Develop analytics solutions (including reports, dashboards and integrated analytics) to solve business needs, accelerate insights and inform actions.

• Partner with the business to incorporate analytical workflows and insights into business process to drive efficiency

• Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on analysis.

• Synthesize insights into concise and impactful presentations to support NiSource strategic objectives.

• Consult with IT on the design of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Data Lake environments to maximize the quality, accessibility, and re-usability of data.

• Consult on IT projects to expand the Enterprise Data Warehouse.

• Build and maintain data sets that enable cross-functional connectivity and are adaptable to changing business needs

• Ensure proper data quality controls are included in analytics products.

• Implement data governance and information security framework/standards including data stewardship, custodian roles, metadata management, access controls, etc.

• Partner with IT to support user facing analytics technology and monitor to ensure adherence to standards

• Entry-level professional individual contributor on a project or work team

• Has conceptual knowledge of fundamental theories, principles and practices

• Explains facts, policies and practices related to job area

• Problems faced are not typically difficult or complex

• Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems

• Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from more senior level roles

• Typically requires a college or university degree or the equivalent work experience

• Contribute to interactive dashboards by gathering relevant data

• Contribute to reports and presentation

• Leverage graphic tools to extract and shape data for analytics

• Understands basic concepts for profiling data

• Typically focuses on descriptive and diagnostic solutions

Required Qualifications for Position

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

• Experience with data acquisition methods and tools (Tableau Prep, SQL, Python)

• Experience with data visualization and analysis software (Tableau, Excel, Cognos Analytics, PowerBI)

• Experience working with relational databases

• Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of business applications

Preferred Qualifications for Position

• Related experience in the utility industry

• Strong business acumen

• Specific domain knowledge and experience

• Experience with statistical modeling

• Experience as a data steward and knowledge of data governance
