Normal Work Schedule: 4:00am to 12:30pm; 7:00am to 3:30pm; 3:30pm to 12:00am

Job Summary: Performs duties associated with the cleaning and maintenance of University buildings. This is the entry level position to the Custodian Career Ladder.

Additional Department Summary: The Custodian performs routine manual work in housekeeping and cleaning of interior spaces and immediate exterior areas. Sweeps. Mops. Vacuums. Polishes. Dusts furniture. Cleans restrooms, windows, blinds, mirrors in academic, administrative and athletic buildings as well as on campus living spaces.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to work different shifts. A valid driver’s license may be required depending on the assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job (up to 25lbs). Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach and lift arms above head. Must be able to kneel, bend or stoop. Must be comfortable working around pets. Must have the ability to use job-related tools, equipment and chemical supplies.

Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Valid U.S. driver's license. Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
