Custodian/Day Porter Job Description
All employees at Prospect Ridge Academy work together to create academic, social, and ethical leaders. This job description is an overview of duties and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed.

The Day Porter is responsible for the care of the school facilities and will help clean and prepare for building events both during the school day and after hours. This position will accomplish these duties while working with students, parents, other teachers and staff toward achieving the goals set forth in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform school cleaning dutiesRemoving trash and cleaning and/or sanitizing of both facilities including but not limited to: classrooms, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, commons, offices, gymnasium, media/library, locker rooms, etc.
  • Assists with building set-up of facilities for school activities/operations for various eventsSet-up and tear down of events that includes but is not limited to: moving tables, chairs and other furniture
    Locking/Unlocking areas as needed for event.
    Secure building when event is concluded to include arming security alarm
  • Perform building and site safety and operational checks, including inspecting for hazards, graffiti and vandalism and reports findings to supervisor.
  • Assist with care of school grounds including but not limited to:Edging, tree trimming, snow removal, snow melt distribution, clean and remove debris from school grounds including fence line, cleaning inside/outside windows, doors and lighting fixtures
  • Answer questions, responds to requests and/or directs individuals to appropriate locations
  • Communicate with Supervisor about any questions or concerns
  • Perform seasonal, summer and project cleaning
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Experience in general cleaning, chemical handling and customer service preferred, but not required.

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic problem solving skills.
  • Operate various types of cleaning equipment.
  • Prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice.
  • Follow building/department/school/district policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with a variety of people, including those from diverse age groups, ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilizes safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor or administrator.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • The employee is regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms, climb and balance.
  • The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, and grasp.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and interpret various documents such as rules, policy and expectation, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents.
  • Ability to speak effectively to staff, students, Administrators and parents.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations
  • Ability to coordinate different tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal, and customer service skills while working with a diverse population
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self motivated.
  • Ability and skill to use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation.

Reporting:
This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

Working Conditions

  • Work is occasionally regularly performed inside and outside in all weather conditions with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Working conditions may include wet, humid areas, work near moving mechanical parts may occur, contact with fumes, airborne particles or chemicals will occur.
  • Staff may be exposed to moderate and sometimes loud noise.
  • This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors and parents.
  • Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.

SALARY HIRING RANGE:
$13.86-$15.06 per hour

  • PERA: Administered by Colorado PERA, this is a tax deferred retirement account to which you contribute 10% of your monthly earnings. Additionally, PRA contributes 20.9% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
