POSITION SUMMARY: The Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Team serves as the liaison and support team for radiology workflow including Dayhawk subspecialty reads, Cost Center Teleradiology sites, Atrium Health (AH) workflow, medical staff from various facilities, and radiologists. Their primary function is to support the system by distributing work appropriately for subspecialty reads, adhering to the Operation Committee (OC) directives, and provide effective communications ensuring efficacious patient care. In addition, the ATC play a consistent key
role in problem solving as issues arise across the Enterprise. This role will involve managing teleradiology work from outside locations and distributing to appropriate reading radiologists based on subspecialties and OC directive. Responsibilities also include working with the Evening Team to send work out to partner radiology group(s) for afterhours subspecialty reads.

WORK HOURS ARE Monday - Friday 11a to 8p

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for coordination and distribution of AH and non-AH subspecialty workflow including multiple Teleradiology locations. Responsibilities include maintaining a working knowledge of all radiology modalities (CT, MRI, US, etc.), locations, subspecialty radiology reads and detailed OC workflow protocols.
  • Monitors PACS system, Prism/Primordial, Righfax, Telerad for effective flow of studies and reads with specific duties to include:
oFielding emails and phone calls for incoming read requests, needs or issues
oMonitoring radiologist report turnaround time (TAT) for compliance with service level agreements
oManaging urgent requests such as workflow associated with high acuity patient clinical exams
oRecognize delays and managing delinquent exams
oProcessing second reads
  • Effective communications with Radiologists and Teleradiology locations to assist workflow and meeting service TAT standards. Monitor report completion and distribution via PACS, RightFax system and Telerad tool for Telerad sites.
  • Ability to work within multiple systems including multiple PACS. Proficient in using and understanding integrated Rad worklist
  • Identify IT issues and apply understanding of the system to have them resolved. This includes correcting exceptions/errors with exams and merge/link patient information in PACS. Monitoring Telerad Tool to ensure reports areelectronically distributed to sites.
  • Work closely with Rads on back up process for work distribution in addition to problem solving as issues arise with exams, read stations, and technical issues
  • Provide workflow support to the system as needed during planned and unplanned downtimes, including assisting radiologists in locating exams when systems are down.
  • Continue to grow and evolve with the team as the needs of the system change over time to best meet patient care requirements.
  • Comprehension and appropriate application of Operations Committee directives.
Minimum Qualifications: Education/Licensing/Certification:
  • Associate degree/Junior College. Radiologic Technology preferred
  • ARRT Certification helpful but not required
  • Equivalent work experience (in lieu of Associate degree) may be considered
Experience (years and type):
  • Radiology Experience preferred but not a must
  • Customer Service experience helpful
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Critical thinking skills and problem solving in high pressure situations
  • Excellent, customer-focused communication skills required (verbal and written)
  • Ability to multi-task routinely and prioritize easily
  • Knowledge of medical terminology specifically technical radiology terms: MRI, CT, US.
  • Self-directed learner
  • Ability to maintain positive attitude, even in stressful situations
  • Flexible to meet the demands of multiple Teleradiology locations and multiple Integrated sites
  • Help team members learn and develop in their knowledge and understanding of the system
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Organization and close attention to detail. Ability to monitor PACS Rad worklists along with self confidence in distributing work following set policies and guidelines
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to maintain TAT standards.
  • Ability to work remotely while remaining fully engaged in a Team culture including consistent communication through Microsoft Teams
  • Recognition of exam completion to provide radiologist with information needed to complete a comprehensive dictation
