The standardized annual salary for this position is $ 46,127* dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval.*

Reporting to Correctional Housing Unit Manager I, the Correctional Sergeant I’s job responsibilities include the following:

Supervising of Correctional Officer I's in a minimum custody facility, increasing the custody and security coverage.

• Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
• Overseeing officer activities, performance, and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of the offenders is maintained.
• Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
• Acting as the highest-ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer-In-Charge (OIC).
• Reporting to the Associate Warden.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

The salary grade for this position is NC07 (Salary Range: $34,084 - $59,646). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About *Dan River Prison Work Farm:
Dan River Prison Work Farm is located in Blanch, NC. The facility sits on a 187.5-acre site in the west-central area of Caswell County and houses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service, maintenance, janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
