Community Nutrition Coordinator


Operation Food Search seeks a talented and results-driven individual to join our Community Nutrition team. The successful candidate will have experience working in community settings. You will be part of a team responsible for teaching cooking and food budgeting skills to people of all ages. Position Overview: The Community Nutrition Coordinator will plan and execute effective nutrition programming in the community. With a focus on culinary-based programming, the coordinator will support the department goal of building skills and knowledge that lead to sustained healthy eating habits in the community through hands-on cooking classes, recipe tastings, cooking demonstrations, nutrition presentations, and other outreach events.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate, lead, and teach nutrition education programs in both virtual and in-person formats in accordance with OFS's mission and goals. Formal programming includes Operation CHEF, Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters©, and American Heart Association Healthy for Life.
  • Provide nutrition education and recipe tasting in collaboration with MetroMarket, our innovative mobile farmer's market.
  • Provide culinary nutrition education in partnership with and at OFS Food Agencies including pantries, churches, shelters, and other community organizations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external worksite wellness program for OFS staff and partners.
  • Adequately prepare for classes and cooking demonstrations including, but not limited to, obtaining needed forms, packing supplies and groceries, and transporting materials to and from sites.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise lesson plans, topics, and recipes as necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers and class sites to nurture supportive relationships and provide quality education in class.
  • Foster relationships with host sites and ensure all policies are being followed to allow for optimal education experience.
  • Increases awareness of our community nutrition programs through networking and the development of key community relationships. Recruit new host sites to host classes and one-time nutrition events.
  • Create content for OFS's quarterly newsletter, cooking demonstration videos, and social media sites regarding community nutrition.
  • Complete all relevant administrative work in accordance with OFS standards in a timely manner.
  • Stay abreast of latest research on innovative community-focused nutrition education programs.


Preferred Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Passion for the OFS Mission and strong interest in hunger, poverty, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Experience in a community health setting or community-based organization with relevant work experience in nutrition education, health promotion, program planning, hunger-relief efforts, or closely related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, health promotion, public health, culinary arts or another related field.
  • RD/RDN, as verified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to present effective and compelling messages to individuals, groups and the public and confidence speaking in front of a camera.
  • Commitment to racial equity, and the ability to work in and understand the needs of diverse, multi-cultural populations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with proven ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues, as well as external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong initiative, leadership, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful in unexpected situations
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Familiar and comfortable using the Microsoft Suite; able and willing to learn other software programs.


Special Requirements:


  • ServSafe© certified or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate evenings, occasional special events after hours and/or weekend activities.
  • Willingness to travel to sites around St. Louis and surrounding areas. Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record and reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursable).
  • Occasional travel to out-of-town meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and to be on feet for extended periods of time in a hot or cold environment.
  • Assist with other OFS duties as required or as assigned.

Salary: $39,919-$59,879 Commensurate with experience; Health Insurance; Dental; 401(k); PTO
