The Diagnostic Sonography Program is seeking an instructor to teach laboratory courses: DCS and DMS109: Sonography Lab I. This instructor will work 7 hours per week on a Monday or Wednesday (8am to 3pm), plus 2 hours prep, compensation is 41.20 to 51.50 per hour.
Clinical lab supervisors must be familiar with the program goals and be able to develop and deliver an organized plan of instruction and evaluation and have appropriate credentials for the learning areas they teach. Instructors are responsible for effectively delivering appropriate content, evaluating students, reporting progress, and for the periodic review and updating of course material.
Maintains the highest possible standards of instruction by:
Planning each course and adhering to course objectives.
Preparing and filing current course outlines with the Program Coordinator and Division.
Utilizing the full class time assigned, meeting all classes as scheduled.
Utilizing applicable resources: equipment, texts, audio-visual aids, testing, web management systems and applications, and community resources if applicable.
Keeping abreast of new information in one’s teaching field, integrating it where appropriate into his or her instruction.
Being aware of new developments in learning theory and applying them to the instructional process.
Comparing course content to that of similar courses in other schools.
Teaches courses in accordance with their description as published. Course outline/objectives must be approved by the Program Coordinator/Division Dean.
Carries out his or her responsibilities as outlined in the program student handbook, laboratory, and clinical manual as applicable.
Informs students of the means and the times they are available for student consultation.
Demonstrates concern for the student in all aspects of education, e.g. motivating the student to the best possible adjustment; interpreting the student’s responsibilities to instructors, to the College, to society and to oneself; discussing student problems when appropriate with designated college personnel with a view toward the improvement of learning.
Maintains accurate attendance and academic records of students enrolled in class and submits required reports to the Registrar’s Office, Division office, and program coordinator.
Cooperates with Student Affairs in identifying students who are academically deficient and in need of student development or who need special consideration for other than academic deficiencies.
Meets with the program coordinator initially and periodically to discuss course outlines, goals, preparation for teaching to ensure that the goals of the course and the quality of instruction are maintained during said course.
Recommends textbook/resource changes and improvements in curriculum in consultation Program Coordinator/Division Dean.
Reports all irregularities, questions or problems concerning instruction to the Program Coordinator/Division Dean.
Is familiar with the objectives of the community college as a part of higher education in Illinois and the nation and practices and interprets these objectives to students, parents, colleagues and the community.
Other reasonable tasks as assigned by Program Coordinator/Division Dean.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with two years (or 2000 hours) clinical experience specific to the concentration(s) that s/he teaches or Associate degree with 5 years tested clinical experience specific to the concentration(s) that s/he teaches
- Appropriate credential: RDMS in Ab OB and RVT
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience Requirements:
- Clinical experience in diagnostic medical sonography as described above
- Remain active clinically while in the role
