Civil Litigation Attorney

Gallagher Sharp LLP is an AV-rated law firm with multiple offices throughout Ohio and Michigan. We are actively recruiting a motivated civil litigation associate attorney with experience handling railroad litigation, including FELA and grade crossing accidents, to join the firm’s Transportation Practice Group in Cleveland, Ohio. The position will provide a qualified associate with an excellent opportunity to be part of a nationally-recognized team of trial attorneys that defends several different railroad companies in Ohio and Michigan.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have all of the following:

• Experience defending against large railroad accident claims. Additional experience with general liability claims and real estate matters (personal injury, premises liability, etc.) is also a plus.
• Knowledge of the Federal Employers’ Liability Act and federal regulations relevant to the railroad industry.
• Experience providing investigative services to clients, including on-site investigative assistance following a major accident is a plus.
• General Civil Litigation experience is also a plus.

All candidates must also possess each of the following:

• An active Ohio law license.
• Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Substantial experience investigating claims, preparing and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, managing expert witnesses, and all aspects of motion practice.
• The ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently, depending on the size and nature of the matter.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, clients, the court, and opposing counsel.
• A desire to maintain and develop long-term client relationships, and actively participate in industry-related groups and associations.
