Civil Engineer

Salary Range -$63,778 to $85,467 (commensurate with experience)

Full-time union position, 35 hrs/week w/benefits

Working under the supervision of the Town Engineer and Director of Public Works, the Civil Engineer has the responsibility of performing work in design, construction, and inspection of municipal public works projects; performs research and drafting work; provides information on departmental systems and policies to contractors, consulting engineers, and public. Responsibilities include: assisting with the development and implementation of the CT DEEP MS4 permit requirements, including but not limited to: Administrative review of the MS4 requirements and associated tasks to sustain the permit status in accordance with State Statute, as amended; assisting in the preparation and\or review of plans, specifications, designs, and cost estimates for public works projects; project manager for development of estimates, plans, project administration and scheduling of projects; and designing and preparing plans, drainage calculations, specifications, and bid documents for infrastructure and civil engineering projects.

The education, experience and training required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of one (1) year experience in engineering technical work (Note: work experience which includes land survey crew experience, engineering design, construction inspection and preparing cost estimates may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A State of Connecticut licensure as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) is desirable.

A criminal record check and valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License are required. The Town of Stonington conducts a urinalysis drug test as part of the hiring process. The urinalysis drug test will be performed using a reliable methodology. The results of any such test shall be confidential and shall not be disclosed by the employer or its employees to any person other than any such employee to whom such disclosure is necessary; the results shall be maintained along with other employee medical records.
