Church Youth and Family Leader
Grace Church Van Vorst, an Episcopal church in downtown Jersey City, is seeking a Youth and Family Leader. GCVV is a vibrant and welcoming community that is looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic leader to develop and expand their ministry with children, youth, new parents, and families.
Responsibilities:
- Create a safe, loving environment for children pre-K through fifth grade to learn about God within the church community
- Create a safe, loving environment for young people eleven years old and up to learn about God within the church community as part of the Grace Youth Group, through education, outreach, fellowship, and outings
- Engage and instruct members of the church to participate as volunteers in the youth and family ministries
- Welcome new families into the church community and connect them with youth and family ministries
- Nurture the Family Matters Ministry to support parents within the church community
Job Description:
- Oversee the Sunday School program, with learning opportunities for children ages 3-5 and 6-10 years old
- Create, revise, and/or procure curriculum and materials for Sunday School programs
- Teach Sunday School classes on a weekly basis
- Recruit and prepare members of the congregation to teach Sunday School classes
- Plan and lead Youth Group meetings, outreach activities, and field trips for young people age 11 and up
- Communicate with parents, families, and the congregation about Sunday School, Youth Group, and other family ministry activities
- Coordinate the Family Matters ministry to provide opportunities for parents to connect within the church community, including welcome orientations, book clubs on related topics, and regular activities (Bible study/prayer group, picnics, potluck meals, service projects, retreats, field trips, family game nights, etc.)
- Coordinate and lead a week-long Family Vacation Bible School during the summer
- Plan and execute special events and celebrations around significant dates in the church calendar
- Collaborate with the Rector and church leaders in the development of goals and programming for youth and family ministries
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with church leadership
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or some seminary
- A heart for outreach to help our Youth Ministry grow
- The ideal candidate will be able to work with children and their parents
- Ordination is not required
Hours
- 20 hours per week
- Sunday morning availability is required
- Availability for the following are required: weekday evenings for one week in August for Family Vacation Bible School, Easter and Christmas holidays, and other Saturdays or weeknights for retreats, outings, and events
Compensation
- Total compensation may be negotiated as all salary or a combination of salary and individual health insurance. A pension is included at 5% of salary plus 4% matching if employee wishes to contribute.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
