Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for a Certified Coder to code and abstracts all clinic medical records, for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis and procedure(s) using ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS classification systems.

Responsibilities

• Accurately codes records using ICD-10-CM, HCPCS/CPT coding rules and guidelines, within the timeframe established by department.
• Accurately codes records using ICD-10-CM, HCPCS/CPT coding rules and guidelines, within the timeframe established by department.
• Assists and confers with other coders and supervisor concerning any problem records.
• Tracks open/close encounter reports to ensure that all patients seen in the clinic are properly coded.
• Assists clinic staff with coding questions and issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Updates coding books with changes as they occur.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Medical Record Technology preferred
• One (1) year of medical coding experience required
• High school diploma or GED Equivalent
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
• CPC or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification require
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
• Hospital Outpatient Experience Highly Preferred
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate computer literacy (i.e., use system to manage and schedule appointments, access electronic medical record information).
• Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic tests, procedures, pathology terms, and drug reference books.
• Intermediate knowledge of ICD-10_CM and HCPCS/CPT coding and abstracting procedures.
• Intermediate knowledge of JC, Title 22, and Medicare regulations pertaining to coding and abstracting.
• Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and current medical techniques, procedures, and medications. Or equivalent combination of education and experience
